"... Everything else seemed to be not important after our wonderful trip to Scotland. We come from a beautiful place with people who are both friendly and sometimes stand offish. We spent about 8 days in and around Moffat but did not find out much except we come from either the family at BODEBECK or the one at CRAIGBECK. My bet is on the former. We did confirm Robert & Jean through his gravestone and the 1851 census. when he was 80 so his birthdate is still up in the air 1771 or 1773. Jane age 22 and HALBERT age 35 1816 were in the census too. We could find no record of other children except DAVID on birthstone (sic). Many children were not even registered as it was not compulsory. HALBERT must have been a twin to DAVID."

"We met with Mrs. Margaret Moffat widow of Francis the former chief but she was not very forthcoming with any knowledge she has to have. Robert is listed in the census as a spirit merchant/grocer."²⁶
