Mr. Dewey had been ill for over two months, and about three weeks ago, underwent a critical operation in the General Hospital. Complications set in and he passed peacefully away at one o'clock. on Friday morning.

The late Mr. Dewey was widely known in Kingston and the surrounding district, and the news of his death was learned with sincere regret by his wide circle of friends. Possessed of a kind and genial disposition, and most obliging and courteous in his business relations, he made many friends, and to know him was to love him for his many qualities of heart and mind.

Deceased was born in Colborne, a son of the late Josiah Dewey, and was in his fifty-fourth year. He had been a resident of Kingston for twenty-five years, and for fifteen years had been connected with the fish company. Prior to entering this sailed on the lakes for a number of years. He was a member of St. Paul's church, and also a member of St. John's Lodge, A.F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, a daughter of Capt. Malcolm Shaw, Stuart street; one son, Dean, Renfrew, and one sister, Mrs. S. L. Macbean (sic), Montreal, and one brother. Mr. C. A. Dewey. Renfrew.

The funeral took place from his late residence, 171 Stuart street, to Cataragui cemetery, on Monday morning. The service was conducted by Canon W. F. FitzGerald and it was largely attended by relatives and friends. The casket was banked with floral tributes, expressing the esteem and affectionate regard in which the deceased was held by a wide circle of friends. At St. Paul's church on Sunday evening. the congregation stood at attention while 'The Dead March in Saul" was played on the organ by Miss Walker.

The pall-bearers were H. H. Day, Toronto, William Jackson, Mr. Horne, J. Bain, Mr. Vanluven and H. Ansley, this city. Among the relatives from outside places were Dean Dewey. Renfrew, a son; Mrs. MacBean, Montreal; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey, Renfrew; Mr. G. W. Dewey, Lakeport; George Maitland. Brighton; Mr. and Mrs. T. II. Dothard, Trenton; Matthews, Cobourg.2

Constable Richard Arnold Beard
Napanee Police Department
Ontario

End of Watch: Saturday, August 27, 1921
Constable Richard Beard was stationed at Napanee, Ontario at the time of his death. Constable Beard died from a gunshot wound through his heart. He had been summoned to an alley where 3 suspects were in the process of Break and Enter into a jewelry store. Discovering 3 suspects he drew his weapon but was unable to discharge it before being shot. Constable Beard was accompanied by 2 citizens who fled the scene, sensing danger. A shot was fired and bystanders believed at the time it was Constable Beards weapon that had been discharged.

The suspects were able to elude capture in a stolen vehicle. They were later captured in an armed robbery in Kingston, Ontario that had followed several burglaries and armed hold up cases in that area. One case involved the wounding of a police officer and a businessman.

The 3 suspect males were 2 male twins age 20, and 1 male aged 21.

At the time of his death Constable Beard had served on the force for 7 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He survived by his second wife, 3 sons, 1 daughter, 1 step-son and a step-daughter. His funeral was attended by most of the towns people and businesses were closed for the service. (emphasis added by Rick Moffat.)

Constable Beards brother Assistant Jail Guard Eddie Beard
