The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
His death registration gives his age at death as 86, but then gives his birthdate as 23 Sep 1973. Most other sources give birth dates in or about 1863. Therefore, I accept his age as being accurate, and the birth date is off by 10 years.1

I originally equated these two as one person but the 1917 death certificate of "my" Julia Ann Smith identified her parents as George and Sabina, not Richard and Hester as recorded in the 1860 census record I previously cited.16

The following obituary appeared in the weekly newspaper the Lawrenceburg Press published in Lawrenceburg, Indiana 5 October 1934:
Accident Is Fatal To George Sykes
Well Known Contractor Assisting Moving Daughter and Family to New Home When Accident Occurs
A fatal accident which brought death to George Sykes, a highly esteemed citizen and well known contractor of Bright vicinity occurred on the highway between Cleves and Hooven last Friday morning. The first tidings that came to Bright stated that Mr. Sykes had been seriously injured. Just a little while later the message of sadness came that he was dead.
Mr. Sykes and son Clair, assisted by Edwin Tisdale a son-in-law were moving with an auto and trailer a load of furniture to the new home of Mr. Tisdale at Hooven. Mr. Sykes was riding in the trailer and holding the furniture. At a turn in the road the furniture tilted and Mr. Sykes in his effort to hold it in place lost his balance and fell headforemost (sic) on the cement road and was fatally hurt. Dr. Cutley was summoned and Mr. Sykes was placed in an ambulance headed for a Cincinnati hospital. Death, however, came ere the start for the city was made, and he was taken to his own home near Bright.
There was poignant grief and anguish occasioned by this of this last home-coming of this good man to his immediate family and friends with tender, sympathetic accord, touching the heartstrings of all acquaintances to whom the shocking news had come. He was a man among men, of gentle mien, fair and just in all his dealings. hence had many friends who pay him tribute and attest to their loss in his passing.
Funeral rites were held Sunday at the Bright Christian Church with an extremely large number of relatives and friends being present to attest love and sympathy. Many beautiful flowers also bore mute evidence of esteem. Rev. Titus of Harrison was in charge, assisted by Rev. R. G. Strong of the Methodist Church and Rev. Thornhill of Harrison. The interment was in the family plot in the Gibson Cemetery.
The tribute which follows was written by a friend of the deceased:
"I can not say and I will not say
That he Is dead! He Is Just away
With a cheery smile and a wave of the hand
He has wandered into an unknown land
Think of tam as the same I say,
He is not he is just away"
George Henry Sykes, son of John and Julia Sykes, was born March 9, 1872, and departed this life Sept, 28, 1934, age 62 years 6 months, 19 days. Members of his family surviving are: two brothers, John and James Sykes, and one sister, Mrs. Eva Miller Haley, His early boyhood days were spent in the Bright community. He was married April 22, 1896, to Miss Maud Davis, a successful county teacher before marriage. She died January 20, 1905. To this union two surviving daughters were , born, Miss Gertrude Sykes, of Harrison, 0., and Mrs. Ward Simms of South Bend, Ind.
On December 24 1906, Mr. Sykes was married to Miss Bertha Johnson. To this union were born three children, Cleo, Lola and Clara, who with the stepdaughter Hazel completes the family circle, who are bereft of a kind, loving and thoughtful father. He united with the Christian church early in life and while he attended the Methodist Church with his family he retained his membership with his early chosen church.
He was a, thorough going and active man and a liberal provider for his family. For sometime he had been deeply interested in superintending the erection of a new home at Hoover for his daughter an husband and little Barbara. It was in this desire to see them nicely set up in their new home that he met his tragic and shocking death. Greatly indeed will this daughter and family prize this last loving work of her father.6

In the obituary of Mary Hazel Sykes who died 24 September 1938, his step-father, but not referenced by name. He had died "4 years tomorrow" according to her obituary, George Sykes was listed as predeceased.15
George Henry Sykes was referenced, but not by name, in the obituary of John L. Sykes, who died 26 May 1943.17
