Ivan Elmer Smith was born on 19 April 1919 in Nurse Shaw's, Saskatchewan, Canada.6,7,8 He was the son of James Smith and Mary Elizabeth Yourt.4,5,6 Ivan died on 13 November 1993 in Avondale District, south of Asquith, RM of Vanscoy No. 345, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, at age 74.9 He was buried on 16 November 1993 in Avondale Woodlawn Cemetery, Avondale District, RM of Vanscoy No. 345, Saskatchewan, CanadaG.7

Iven Smith appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of RM of Loganton, Saskatchewan in the household of his parents, James Smith and Mary Smith.8 Ivan Smith was an honorary pallbearer in the funeral ofFred Summach Sr on 24 January 1972.10 In the obituary of Gordon Ray Summach which printed 9 December 1992, Gordon's brother-in-law, Ivan Smith was listed as a survivor.11
     Other information:
"Uncle" Ivan passed away while driving home from Asquith to his farm. His vehicle was found off the road. He apparently had a heart attack, and then he went off the road.

Years earlier Ivan had a close brush with death. His son, Lindsay and Ivan were clearing grain from an old building that had been partitioned to store grain. The wall to the next bin collapsed, covering Ivan with the cascading wheat. Lindsay quickly mounted the tractor and knocked out a wall, releasing the grain, and allowing him to get to his father. The peak of Ivan's cap had provided a small breathing space for him.12
In the obituary of Everett Arthur Young which printed 4 March 2008, Everett's brother-in-law, Iven Smith was listed as predeceased.13

Sturdy Speaks at Asquith Service
ASQUITH
Empire Youth Sunday was observed in Asquith when representatives of the local and surreounding school districts, gathered at a mass service held in Memorial Hall at which J.H. Sturdy, secretary of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation, was special guest speaker. Harvey Summach was chairman, and Miss Verla Forsyth presided at the piano. The service was arranged and drafted by members of the Asquith Teachers' Local and a large attendance proved its popularity. Prayers were offered by Mr. Wardlow, student in charge of St. George's Anglican Church, and Scripture reading was given by Mrs. Crane of the Pentecostal Mission. The Asquith Company of Girl Guides, in uniform, formed a choir singing the anthem, and a duet was sung by Iris and Eileen Johnson. A. Rumbelow took charge of the musical part of the service. Speaking as a returned soldier who had seen service in the First Great War, Mr. Sturdy described the present conflict as amonstrous insult thrown in the face of the Prince of Peace. The only weapon to use against totalitarian ideolgies, he said, is education, for such things can only spread in an environment of ignorance.20

FELSKE - William (Bill) Felske of Calgary, passed away at his residence on December 9, 1997, after a lengthy illness. He is mourned by Della (nee Summach), his loving wife for fifty-three years. Bill was born in 1915 in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, and was one of eight brothers and seven sisters. He farmed near Nokomis and Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, before moving to Alberta in 1948, where he made many friends in farming, investment and Real Estate circles. Enjoyment of family gatherings anchored Bill's life, but there was always time for travelling, gardening, spectator sports, crafting his red and white glider rocking horses, and talking with friends at local coffee shops. Besides his loving wife, Bill will be sadly missed by his children, Sandra (Clifford) Rhodes, and Lorry (Aileen) Felske; four grandchildren, Michelle (Todd) Faunt, Cheralyn (Allen) Doell, Johanna and Nicholas Felske; great-grandson Harison Faunt; and three stepgrandchildren, Teresa (Bill) Pearce, Barbara (Dean) Desireau and Bryan Rhodes. He is also survived by his two sisters and brother-in-law, Ida Otto of Ashern, Manitoba, and Eileen and Wally Otto of Calgary. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church (1311 - 4 Street S.W.), today, December 12, 1997, at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. John Teibe officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. In living memory of William Felske, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnes & Holloway Funeral Homes, "Chapel of the Bells", 2720 Centre St. North.
