     Pinckney Whitfield Christian was born on 29 April 1839 at Chattahoochee County, Georgia, USAG.1,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Thomas Wynn Christian and Lucy N Williams.2 Pinckney married Martha Jane Dean in 1864 at Georgia, USAG.7,8 Pinckney married Martha Jane Dean on 4 February 1866 at Chattahoochee County, Georgia, USAG.9,10,4,6 Pinckney died on 18 September 1910 at Woods, Panola County, Texas, USAG, at age 71.3,11,12 He was buried at Woods Cemetery, Panola County, Texas, USAG.3,11

     He was also known as Pinchney W Christian according to my reading of his 1862 muster roll, although a typr written version from a later period transcribes the "h" as a "k."13 He was also known as P W Christian on his Civil War Pension application and the 1900 census.5 He also went by the name of Whitfield.1,14,15

Pinkney W appeared on the 1850 Federal Census Muscogee County, Georgia in the household of his parents, Thomas Christian and Lucy Christian.16

Pinchney W Christian began military service on 15 May 1862 at Chattahoochee County, Georgia, USAG, as a Corporal in Company F 39th Regiment Alabama Volunteer's under Captain Flewellan.
The Company muster roll of May 15th shows that he joined the company as the youngest (age 22) of 4 corporals. They mustered for "the term of three years, or the war, unless sooner discharged."

Taken prisoner near Savanah on Dec. 12, 1864.5
He ended military service on 10 June 1865 at Maryland, USAG, released from POW camp at Point Lookout, Maryland on June 10, 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.19

Pinckney Christian and Martha Christian appeared on the 1870 U.S. Federal Census of Chattahoochee County, Georgia, at Colemans Disitrict, enumerated 2 August 1870 Their children Charles and Lelia were listed as living with them.6

Pinckney Christian and Martha J Christian appeared on the 1880 U.S. Federal Census of Shelby County, Texas, enumerated 15 June 1880, enumerated as a farmer. Their children Charles, Lela, Rufus, Mary and Thomas were listed as living with them.4

P W Christian and Mattie Christian appeared on the 1900 U.S. Federal Census of Shelby County, Texas, enumerated 12 June 1900 Their children Rufie, Thos, Fred and Clelan were listed as living with them.8
     The following biographical information appeared in:
His Civil War pension application was approved on 28 February 1910.

As part of this application, Thos. J Clements made an oath to the following facts:
That he personally knows that P. W. Christian enlisted in the service of the confederacy and performed the duties of a soldier. That he personally knows that the said P. W. Christian enlisted in Co "C" 29th Ga (Georgia) Battalion Cavalry and served untill (sic) captured at or near Savanah(sic ), Ga on 12th day of December 1864. (Note by Rick Moffat - this was two days after Sherman's army arrived at Savannah.) And lay in prison untill (sic) August 1865. Enlisted in 1861. 12 months we served the time out. We reenlisted for the war and served as above stated.

This is of my personal knowledge having served in Co C. 29th GA Vol with the said P W Christian.
