He was a farmer, born Oct 21, 1883 in Barrie, Simcoe County, Ontario. He later served overseas and while still a Private was awarded the Military Medal for bravery. He served with the 15th Battalion.11,12

Minty

The death of Gordon Stuart Minty, aged 66 years, of Asquith, Sask., occurred in a Saskatoon hospital on December 8, 1949. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, at 2 p.m. from Asquith United Church, conducted by Mr. H. R. Ashford. Surviving are his widow, Jessie Minty, Asquith; two sons, Ronald and Gordon, both at Asquith; four daughters, Mrs. R. C. Watson (Mary), Spalding, Mrs. Stanley Jones (Alice), Berkeley, California, Mrs. Norman Westad (Elaine), Langham, and Edith at home. The late Mr. Minty was born in Ontario and came west to homestead in the Asquith district in 1907. He was a veteran of the First World War, having joined the 96th Canadian Highlanders. He served with the 15th Battalion, Machine Gun Section, overseas, and was awarded the Military Medal. He took a keen interest in the organization of the Wheat Pool and various co-operative organizations. Interment will be made in Asquith Cemetery. Saskatoon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.5

     Robert Aldwin Black was born on 16 August 1918.3,4 He was the son of Aldwin Roy Black and Mildred Viola Moffat.2 Robert married Vera Evelyn Hagyard, daughter of Frederick Charles Hagyard and Mary McKinstry Armstrong, on 16 October 1943 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, CanadaG, The home of Mr. Fred C. Hagyard, Pilot Mound, was the scene of a pretty candle-lit ceremony, Oct. 16, when Vera Evelyn, youngest daughter of Mr. F.C. Hagyard and the late Mrs. Hagyard, became the bride of Robert Aldwin Black, elder son of Mrs. Black and the late Mr. Roy Black, of Holmfield, Man. Rev. W.E. McDonald officiated.

The bride wore a street-length dress of royal blue transparent velvet, with halo headdress of blue florget-me-nots. Her corsage was of Johanna Hill roses, and her only ormanet was a wrist watch, gift of the bridegroom.

Miss Eva Black, the bridegroom's sister, was bridesmaid, wore fern green crepe, two-piece frock. Her corsage was of roses and fern.

The bridal music was played by Miss Ruby Foster of Killarney. During the signing of the registre Miss Joyce Boote, niece of the bride, sang Bless This House, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Milton Boote.

Mr. Gordon Barber, Killarney, was best man.

Following the ceremony a buffet supper was served to 36 guests after which the couple left for a trip to eastern points. The bride wearing a two-piece dress of British tan crepe with mathcing hat. Her top-coat was of green boucle with red fox fur. They will reside on the bridegroom's farm at Holmfield.1 Robert died on 1 December 1994 in Tri-Lake Health Centre, Killarney, RM of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, CanadaG, at age 76.5 He was buried on 4 December 1994 in Killarney Cemetery, Killarney, RM of Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, CanadaG.4

     Carl Ristau was also known as Charles Ristow.20,21,10 He also went by the name of Carl gravestone.9 He emigrated with Carl Ristau and Henrietta Ristau on 29 June 1861 from in Québec City, Canada East, United Province of CanadaG; from Hamburg, Germany.7,2 Carl Ristau immigrated in 1872 to CanadaG from Germany.11 He was the informant on the death registration of Son and informant, Carl Ristau.7,22 Carl Ristau was a survivor of his wife Mariamne who died in 1884.23

Carl Rista and Maggie Rista appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 16 April 1891, enumerated as a Baptist and a Farmer. Their children Annie, Adeline, William, John, Alex and Mena were listed as living with them.12 Carl Ristau was naturalized in 1896 in CanadaG.11

Charlie Restow and Maggie Restow appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, enumerated as a Baptist and a Farmer. Their children Emma, Adline, William, John, Alexander, Lena, Danial, Lewis, Lillie and Alfred were listed as living with them.11

Charles Lewis appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, in the household of William Edward Ristaw and Augusta Ristaw, William's father, and listed as a retired farmer.13 In the obituary of Emma Ristow which printed circa 18 February 1938, Emma's father, Charles Ristow was listed as predeceased.24

    The Late Eliza Layman Hartwig
    After a lengthy illness a well-known respected citizen in the person of Mrs. Eliza Hartwig passed from this life on Wednesday night September 19th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Yourth and Mr. Yourth. The deceased was born in Stafford Ont., on Dec 30th 1869 and was in her 82nd year. She was a daughter of the late Mary Doerring and Matthues Layman. On May 27th 1897 she was united in marriage to Herman Hartwig who predeceased her 17 years ago since which time she made her home with her family. Also four brothers and one sister predeceased her. She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Miss Mary Layman of Stafford and four daughters, Mrs. McLeod, Mary Ann of Alexandria; Mrs. George Yourth, Isobelle, of Golden Lake; Mrs. Herbert Kuehl, Amanda of North Bay and Mrs. Norman Layman, Mae, Golden Lake. Also two sons Andrew and Don Hartwig of Killaloe. Two stepsons Ernest and Alex also of Killaloe. One daughter Minnie predeceased her. There are 38 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren who mourn the loss of a grandmother.
    The funeral was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from her late residence wiht (sic) service in the Evangelical U.B. church of which she was a faithful member when health permitted her to attend. Service was in charge of the pastor, Rev. A. M. Schlenker assisted in the home and church by Rev. Weisser of Calvary Baptist church, Killaoe. Interment was made in the Baptist cemetery in Killaloe.
    Pall bearers were Messrs. Mervin, Donal and Glenden Hartwig, Messrs. Reginald and Bud Kuehl.
    Flowerbearers were Mrs. Ernie Junnop, Mrs. Fred Neuman, Miss Muriel Hartwig, Miss Ella Mae Hartwig, Mrs. Reginald Kuehl and Mrs Bud Kuehl.
    The funeral was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from her late residence wiht (sic) service in the Evangelical U.B. church of which she was a faithful member when health permitted her to attend.      Anne Bork was born on 25 January 1872 in Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.3,4,5,6,7 She was the daughter of Carl Ludwig Bork and Ernestina Potter.2,1 Anne Bork was born on 25 January 1873 in Ontario, CanadaG, in the 1901 census.8 Anne married Daniel Frederick Gienow, son of John H B Gienow and Wilhelmina Gietz, on 30 June 1892 in the Baptist Church, Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, Ontario Marriage Registration 010666-92.9,1,4,5,8,10,7 Anne died on 12 April 1959 in Balgonie, RM of Edenwold No. 158, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, at age 87.2,11,6
     She also went by the name of Annie Gienow according to the 1916 census.5

Annie B Genow and Danial Genow appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, enumerated as a farmer and a Baptist. Their children John, Danial, Minnie, Samuel and Girtie were listed as living with them. As was his mother, Menia Genow.8

Anna Geno and Daniel Geno appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Saskatchewan, enumerated 5 June 1911, enumerated as a farmer and a Baptist. Their children John, Dan, Samual, Gertruth, Norman, Emma, Walter, Lorenz, Milda and Annabell were listed as living with them. As was his grandmother.7 Annie Gienow and Denial Gienow appeared on the 1916 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces of RM of Edenwold No. 158, Saskatchewan, enumerated 1 June 1916, enumerated as a farmer and a Baptist. Their children John, Samuel, Gerdrude, Norman, Wother, Milterd, Louis, Annie, Ralfe and Edwin were listed as living with them. German was his mother tongue. The 1916 census only recorded the age, not the date of birth.5
     The following newspaper article appeared in the Regina, Saskatchewan Regina Leader-Post 12 August 1955 :
BALGONIE (Special) - Mrs. Dan Gienow, 83-year-old pioneer of Saskatchewan, was honored at a family gathering at B-Say-Tah point with 43 members and one visitor present.

Games and swimming were enjoyed followed by a wiener roast. Sons and daughters present were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gienow, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gienow and family of Balgonie; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gienow, Buddy and grandchildren, of Yorkton; Mr. and Mrs. A Hansen, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gienow and girls from Windsor; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Rennick and boys from Rouleau; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gienow and family, Craven; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gienow and girls of Atikokan, Ontario.

Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Smith of Kelowna were unable to be present. Grandchildren included Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gienow and family, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Coles and family of Balgonie; Mr. and Mrs. Denis Gienow and family of Niagara Falls. Special guest was W. Rennick, Milestone.12
In the obituary of Annie Bell Gienow which printed 21 August 2001, Annie's mother, Anne Gienow was listed as predeceased.13
