     William Alexander Anderson was born on 5 December 1897 at Dalesboro district, Saskatchewan, Canada, Saskatchewan birth registration 1897-10191.2,5 He was the son of William Booth Anderson and Agnes Hume.3,4 Alternatively, he was born on 5 December 1898 at Carlyle, RM of Moose Mountain No. 63, Saskatchewan, CanadaG.6 William died on 29 August 1918 at FranceG at age 20 of a shrapnel wound that fractured his thigh during an attack on Vis-en-Artois. Some forms in his service file record it as a G.S.W. (gun shot wound.)

"He was immediately attended to and evacuated to Field Ambulance, via Battalion Aid Post, and from there was removed to No. 7 Casualty Clearing Station where he succumbed to his wounds."

He was a member of the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles.3,7 He was buried at Ligny-St. Flochel British Cemetery, Averdoingt, Pas de Calais, FranceG, Grave reference II.F.8. This was a cemetery for casualty clearing centers. It is located about 24 km from Arras.3,7

     His name was also recorded as Pvt William Alexandra Anderson on some of the forms in his WWI service file.6

William Anderson appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Assiniboia East, The Territories in the household of his mother Agnes Anderson.5

William Alexander Anderson began military service on 28 October 1916 at Melville, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, Regimental number(s): 1069183 - listed his occupation as Teacher, and residing at Hubbard, SK. He signed as Wm Anderson. Forms within his military file give both Alexandra and Alexander as his middle name.6
