The people of this vicinity are sorry to hear of the very serious illness of Miss Bertha Noack, who has been sick for nearly a month, the cause being heart trouble and anemia.17


     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Renfrew Mercury published in Renfrew, Ontario 3 June 1927 :
Death claimed for its victim another elderly person when Miss Bertha Noack passed away on Tuesday morning, May 24th, following an illness of about three months. The cause being pernicious anemia. The deceased was aged 68 years, 10 months and two days. As Miss Noack never married she spent most of her younger days with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Noack. After their death she spent a few years with her brother, Matt. Noack, Jr., and the last seven years she spent with her brother-in-law, Henry Lisk and family where her death took place. She was a devoted member of the Evangelical church always willing to aid in time of need. Her death will be learned with regret by many. ... The funeral took place on Thursday, May 26th, at half-past one. A short service was held at the house, after which her remains were taken to the church where a large number gathered to pay last respect (sic) to the deceased. From here remains were taken ot the cemetery and laid to rest. Rev. C. R. Kauth conducted the service. The pall-bearers were her four brothers, - Albert, August, Matthew and William Noack; her brother-in-law, Henry Lisk and Nicholas Krans.

Mrs. John Schlievert was in town Thursday last to attend the funeral of her sister. the late Miss B Noack.

Mrs. August Noack and daughter Emma and Mrs. Godfrey Yourth of Golden Lake were in town Thursday to attend the funeral of Miss B Noack.

Messrs. Ernie? and Willie Noack of Tramore spent Sunday at the home of H. Lisk and family.13

     Wilhelmine Albertine Frederick Mielke was born circa 1840 died at age 75 in August of 1915.8 She was born on 2 March 1841 in GermanyG in the 1901 census.6 She was the daughter of Johann Milke and Louisa Ludke.5,6,7,4 Wilhelmine Albertine Frederick Mielke was born on 7 March 1844 in GermanyG 1911 census (Mar 1844) and she died at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 4 days which would make her birth date about Mar 7, 1844.9,7 She was born circa 1845 in GermanyG age 27 at time of her marriage, and age 46 in the 1891 census.5,10 She was born circa 1847 in GermanyG 34 in 1881 census.11 Wilhelmine married Johann Noack, son of Mathias Noack and Annie N Schulge, on 1 August 1872 in St. Paul's Church, Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.12,13,8,14,4,9,6,11,10 Wilhelmine died on 11 August 1919 in Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 78 intestinal obstruction for 5 weeks, with immediate cause of death being exhaustion according to Ontario Death Registration 028474. At her home at an early hour this morning, death claimed an esteemed Pembroke woman, Mrs. Gustave Ziebell, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Ziebell was 56 years of age and was born in Stafford Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Noack, her maiden name being Mary Noack. Her marriage to Mr. Ziebell took place in 1897 and, besides her husband she is survived by one son, Gustave Ziebell, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. George Cordell, Detroit and Mrs. George Simpson, Pembroke. George Ziebell, Ottawa, and Alex, of Pembroke, are stepsons. Mrs. Theodore Kossatz, Bengal, Sask., and Mrs. Charles Remres, Pembroke are sisters, and Herman and John Noack, Shady Nook , are brothers. The funeral will be held from the family home at two o'clock on Thursday afternoon, to be conducted by the International Bible Students' Association, with interment following in Wesley United Church cemetery.11

Their daughter Florence was listed as living with them.9 In the obituary of Mary Noack which printed 1 June 1932, Mary's sister, Mrs Charles Remres (sic) was listed as a survivor.13

     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Ottawa Citizen published in Ottawa, Ontario 10 July 1944 :
REMUS - at a local hospital on Saturday July 8, 1944. Wilhemina Noack, widow of Charles G. Remus of Pembroke, Ont., in her 56th year. Remains left Hulse and Playfair, Ltd., 315 McLeod St., on Sunday evening. Resting at her home, 560 Miller St., Pembroke. Funeral service and interment on Tuesday afternoon.14




     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Ottawa Journal published in Ottawa, Ontario 11 July 1944 :
Many former friends in Pembroke will learn with regret of the death Saturday night in an Ottawa hospital of Mrs. Charles Remus, well known resident of Pembroke, following an illness of two years, Mrs. Remus was 65 years of age.

Born in Stafford township, she was the former Wilhelmina Noack, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Noack. Her husband, Charles Remus, predeceased he in 1935.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Biesenthal and Miss Elizabeth Remus, of Pembroke, and two sons, Arthur, of Pembroke, and Sgt. Carl Remus, C.M.S.C., New York. One brother, Herman Noack, Shady Nook, and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Kossatz, Pembroke, also survive.

The funeral was held this afternoon from the home, 560 Miller street, to St. John's Lutheran Church for service with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. C. H. Newhaus officiated.3

     Elizabeth Regel was born on 7 December 1844 in Silorr, Frankfort, Prussia or Sielow, Cottbus, Prussia (modern Germany)G, the month of her birth is difficult to read on the photo of her gravestone, but it is confirmed by both the 1901 and the 1911 census.6,7,2,3,4,10 She was the daughter of Hans Regel and Christian (?)6,7,8,9 Alternatively, she was born circa 1845 in GermanyG 36 in 1881 census, 46 in the 1891 census and 76 in the 1921 census.6,7,11,12,13,5 Elizabeth married Christian Noack, son of Hans Noack and Annie Schitke, on 25 July 1869 in St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, by banns according to Ontario Marriage Registration (General No. 2051) I assume that witnesses Martin and Johann Noack of Stafford Twp. were his cousins, the sons of Matthias Noack. The other two witnesses were Fred'k and Mich'l Biesenthal of Alice Twp.. They were married by Martin Noack and Johann Gottlieb Noack.14,15,2,16,9,17,4,10,11,13,5 Elizabeth died on 24 January 1935 in Ontario, CanadaG, at age 90.2,3 She was buried in Locksley - Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.2

     She also went by the name of Betsee Noak 1871 census.13 She immigrated in 1864 to CanadaG from Germany (1901 census.)4 She immigrated in 1865 to CanadaG from Germany (1911 census.)10 She immigrated in 1870 to CanadaG from Germany according to the 1921 census. This is the least reliable immigration date since it was probably provided by her son rather than her husband or herself. It also falls after her marriage which occurred in Canada.12

Betsee Noak and Christe Noak appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871, listed as a Lutheran and a Labourer. Their son William Christian was listed as living with them.13

Elizabeth Noack and Christian Noack appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881, enumerated as a Farmer and a Lutheran. Their children William, John, Mary, Ann Agusta and Martin were listed as living with them.5

Elizabeth Nock and Christopher Nock appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 6 April 1891, enumerated as a farmer and a Lutheran. Their children William, John, Mary, Anne, Martin, Henry, Martha and Christian were listed as living with them.11

Elizabeth Noack and Christian Noack appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, enumerated as a Farmer and a Lutheran. Their children Henry, Martha and Christian were listed as living with them.4

Elizabeth Noach and Christian Noach appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 5 June 1911, enumerated as a Farmer and a Lutheran. Their daughter Anna Louisa was listed as living with them. His son Henry was enumerated as the head of the next household.10 Elizabeth Noack was a survivor of her husband Christian who died in 1912.18

Elizabeth appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, in the household of Henry Noak and Marth Noak.12 In the obituary of Edward Charles Noack which printed 28 December 1931, Edward's grandmother, Mrs J (sic) Noack was listed as a survivor.19 In the obituary of John Noack which printed 22 November 1945, John's mother, Mrs John Noack was listed as predeceased.20

His gravestone gives this date of death, but his death registration gives his date of death as Feb 12th, 1901, but it was reported on Feb 7th. Their children Mary, Eliza, Hulda, Alvina, Arthur, Martha and Annie were listed as living with them. As was John Ticks who was probably his retired father-in-law.6

     Anna Elizabeth Schettke was born circa 1840 in GermanyG age 31 in the 1871 census.4 She was born on 23 April 1841 in GermanyG.5,2,3,6,7,8 Anna married Martin Noack, son of Mathias Noack and Annie N Schulge, before 1861.9,10,11,4,7,8 Anna died on 17 November 1909 in Lot 22, Conc 3, Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 68 Rick Schroder and her death registration give her year of death as 1909, but her gravestone is clearly 1902. She suffered from arterio sclerosis for 15 years, and died of pneumonia after 6 days. See Ontario Death Registration 026111.. The informant was Frederick Noack.12,13,3 Anna Elizabeth Schettke was buried in Locksley - Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.2

     She also went by the name of Hana Noak in the 1871 census.4 She also went by the name of Anne Noack according to the 1881 census.8 She also went by the name of Annie Noak according to the 1901 census.6 She and Martin Noack immigrated in 1869 to CanadaG from Germany.10,11

Elilzabeth (sic) Noack and Martin Noack appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 6 April 1891, enumerated as a Farmer and a Lutheran. Their children Mary and Gustive were listed as living with them. As were their married son and daughter-in-law Frederick Noack and Mary Noack and their granddaughter, Anne Clara Noack.7

Annie Noak and Marten Noak appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, enumerated as a Lutheran and a Farmer. Their children Mary were listed as living with them. As were his son and daughter-in-law Fredrick Noak and Mary Noak and their grandchildren, Annie, George, Clara, Martha and Fredrick.14

     Frederick Noack was born on 26 November 1863 in Selow, Germany.10,11,12,13,14,2,9,3,4 He was the son of Martin Noack and Anna Elizabeth Schettke.5,6,7,8,9,4 Frederick married Marie C Biesenthal, daughter of August Ferdinand Biesenthal and Augusta Hulda Lousie Tiegs, on 19 June 1890 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Germanicus, Wilberforce Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.10,15,7,12,14,8,2,16 Frederick died on 5 January 1947 in Stafford Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 83.11,17 He was buried on 8 January 1947 in Locksley - Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.18,17

As was his nephew, an unknown person.2 In the obituary of Marie C Biesenthal which printed 28 April 1932, Marie's son, Fred Noack was listed as a survivor.16

     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Ottawa Journal published in Ottawa, Ontario 7 January 1947 :
