Private, 59004, 21st Bn., Canadian Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment), 21st Bn.4,3,1,5 He was buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Contalmaison, FranceG.4,5

      and Pvt Rob Roy Airth as he signed his attestation papers.3 He also went by the name of Roy from his WWI attestation papers.3

     George Alexander McLaren was born on 20 August 1897 in Québec, CanadaG.4 He was born on 20 August 1897 in Renfrew, Horton Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.3,1,2,5 He was the son of Robert A McLaren and Frances Wright Jamieson.3,1,2,4 George died on 30 August 1918 in FranceG at age 21.6,1,7,8
     His name was also recorded as Alexander G McLaren.4 He also went by the name of Alex.3 George appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Masson, Buckingham Twp., Québec, in the household of Robert A McLaren.4

George Alexander McLaren began military service on 11 October 1917 in Renfrew, Horton Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, Medical examination under Military Service Act. He was called up Jan 3, 1918 in Kingston, Ontario. His enlistment papers show that he had scars from old burns on his right arm and left hip.9

     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Renfrew Mercury published in Renfrew, Ontario 20 September 1918 :

Killed in Action

George Alexander McLaren, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. R.A McLaren of Renfrew, reached his 21st year on August 20th of this year. He enlisted January 2, 1918, went to Kingston, and in the same month for overseas, landing at Liverpool on February 10th. On June 10th following he reached France. In August he entered the trenches. The last letter received from him was written August 20th. On August 30th he was killed in action. Harold, a brother, is in hospital wounded for the second time, and will probably not be in condition for further fighting.7



     Other information:
His burial Registration notes that "Whilst with his Company in the assembly area, North East of Fontaine-lez-Croisilles, he was hit and almost instantly killed by shrapnel from an enemy shell."

Commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.8
