The year of marriage is either 1883 or 1885. The last digit has been over-written and is open to interpretation. However, they are listed as witnesses on the next marriage in 1884, and do not have the same surname, so they must have married in 1885.

     Other information:
Gladys spent a year or two in Asquith, Saskatchewan, living with her Aunt Myrtle Moffat. Grandma Myrt's memory was slipping, and she needed a companion. Gladys often spoke of her grandchildren, Margy and John. In 1959 we took a road trip to the Rockies, and later took Gladys to Waskesiu with us.

When we received news of her death, my brother Lori thought she died with a "tack in her heart." He was about 5 or 6 at the time.16

In a January 2 story (page 141) it is noted that four pairs of silver fox had arrived at the Sterling Silver Black Fox ranch at Killaloe (established by J.H. Zummach.)36
John Hector Zummach was the informant on the death registration of John Lyle Verch.37,38
The following newspaper article appeared 4 September 1931 :
1931 Briefs, page 177:
September 4 --
Barns and Threshing Mill Burn
On Wednesday morning on Mr. James Harrington's premises near Killaloe, just as threshing operations were finished, a fire was caused, and, in an instant, the whole interior of the barn was enveloped in flames. There was not even time to remove the mill. It was consumed, together with two barns, a cow byre, two sheds and all the feed, which included about 50 tons of hay. The loss is estimated at $3,000 or $4,000, which is partly covered by insurance. The mill destroyed was a new one owned by Messrs. Henry Kuehl and J.H. Zummach, and on which there was no insurance. The theory advanced as to the cause of the fire is that, at threshing, considerable gas generates and a spark, due to friction in some part of the running mill, will set everything ablaze in a moment.39
J H Zummachwas the informant on the death registration of Lena Zummach.40 In the obituary of Lena Runtz which printed 21 September 1938, Lena's son, J H Zummach was listed as a survivor.41 In the obituary of Wilhelmina Verch which printed 7 March 1945, Wilhelmina's husband, John Hector Zummach was listed as a survivor.42
The following newspaper article appeared 19 April 1946 :
1946 Briefs - page 274:
Mr. J. H. Zummach, auctioneer of Killaloe, reports a record crowd in attendance, and record prices realized at Mr. Paul B. Cybulskie's sale on Monday last.43

Alexander Richard Zummach was born on 9 January 1886 at Killaloe, Hagarty Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, The 1911 census gives his age as 25 and year of birth as 1895, which is contradictory. The year of birth should probably be 1886. His birth registration shows 1886, but the Ancestry.com transcription shows 1887. However, the birth was clearly registered July 1, 1886. The 1921 census gives his age as 35, which is consistent with the 1911 census, and it gives an 1886 birth year.8,9,4,10,11 He was the son of John Hector Zummach and Carolina Runtz.3,4,5,6,7 Alexander married Minnie Pauline Schmidt, daughter of Herman Schmidt and Augusta Zieberth, on 9 September 1908 at Toronto, York County, Ontario, CanadaG, Ontario Marriage Registration 003355.12,13,9,14,15,5,11,10 Alexander died in 1960 at Ontario, CanadaG.8,10 He was buried at Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, Bentinck Twp., Grey County, Ontario, CanadaG.16,8,10

The following obituary appeared at an undated newspaper clipping after 5 February 1946 :
One of the best known and most esteemed residents of this community, Marie Rose Zummach, widow of the late William Ristow, passed away on Sunday morning, February 3rd, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Kuehl, with whom she had been living for the past five years. Taken suddenly ill four days previous, her death came as a shock to her family and friends.

Born at Osceola on February 22, 1862, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zummach. Her marriage to William Ristow in 1882 was performed by Rev. A. H. Helmerich in Old Hagarty church.

Apart from the twenty years lived in Kitchener and Saskatchewan following the death of her husband in 1933 (sic), her entire life was spent here. A kind, loving wife and mother, ever devoted to the welfare of the family, her quiet, unassuming manner endeared her to old and young.

Surviving are two sons and seven daughters: Charles Ristow of Kitchener, William Ristow and Mrs. R. F. Briscoe of Saskatoon, Mrs. T. Johnson of Vancouver, Mrs. August Summach of Asquith, Sask., Mrs. Samuel Henderson of Regina, Mrs. William Felhaber of Pembroke, Mrs. Fred Getz and Mrs. J. G. Kuehl of Killaloe. To them we extend our sincere sympathy.

There are thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

The funeral, largely attended, was held at 1.30 o'clock, p.m., on Tuesday to Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. C. R. Weisser officiated and in his eulogy paid fitting tribute to the memory of this beloved pioneer resident. Pall-bearers were Willard Felhaber, Norman, Percy and Wilmar Getz, Melville and Orville Kuehl (grandsons). Beautiful floral tributes were received from members of the family, Saskatchewan and Kitchener friends, Ladies' Missionary Society, Calvary Baptist Church and relatives and friends in Killaloe.12

Relationship2nd great-grandmother of Richard Graeme Moffat

Auguste Fredericka Emile Berger was born circa 1841 at Schonag Friedland Frankfort oder, Prussia/Preußen, Germany.2,3 She was born on 18 January 1842 at GermanyG.4,5,6 She was the daughter of Johan Gotlieb Berger and Justine B Butzin.2 Auguste Fredericka Emile Berger was born circa 1843 at GermanyG in the 1891 census.7 Auguste married Johann Friedrich Jurt, son of Johann Gottfried Jurth and Liese Bulkow, on 17 December 1865 at Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.8,2,7,3,6 Auguste died on 27 March 1909 at Lot 30, Conc 8, Raglan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 67 of dropsy after an illness of 8 months according to Dr Kinder in Ontario Death Registration 028003?. The informant was Frederick William Yourt.5
Auguste Fredericka Emile Berger immigrated in 1863 to CanadaG from Germany.4

Augusta Gurt and Frederick Gurt appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Algona Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871, enumerated as a Farmer and an Evangelical. Their children Frederick, Anna and William were listed as living with them. As were his parents, Gotlip Gurt and Elisabeth Gurt.9

Augusta Ewit and Frederick Ewit appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Raglan & Radcliffe Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881, enumerated as a W Meth(odist) and a Farmer. I believe this is the Jurt/Yourt family because: 1) all family names and estimated years of birth except Eliz/Louisa are correct, 2) Frederick and Augusta were born in Germany, 3) phonetically "Ewit" sounds right (English enumerators probably had problems with German names). Their children Frederick, Anne and Eliza were listed as living with them.6

Augusta Yurt and Frederick Yurt appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Raglan & Radcliffe Twps., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 6 April 1891, enumerated as an Evangelical. Their children Frederick, Annie and Louisie were listed as living with them. As were his granddaughters, the daughters of Anna, Rosanna Yurt and Emma Doerny. Note that Annie's daughter Esther is not enumerated which might support the 1891 birth date, if other primary doucments did not give the 1890 date.7

Augusta Yurt appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, listed as Evangelical in the 1901 census..4
