He was unmarried and age 33, and his brother, Sampson Langdale, was married and age 40. They were joint farmers of 275 acres, employing 8 men and 2 boys. Enumeration included Sampson's wife, Jane and children, Charlotte, Charles, Arthur, Sampson and Martha, a domestic servant, a nurse, a dairymaid, a houseman, a cattle herd(er), a house steward, a groom and a ploughman. Sampson's sister-in-law, Martha was a visitor.²
