Delbert Bourn Drops Dead While Driving Taxi-Cab Wednesday
Delbert Bourn, well known Morgan county resident and operator of the Owl Taxi Company, succumbed suddenly while he was driving his cab at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Bourn was stricken as he was driving north on the east side of the square. He lost control of the car opposite the Elliott Bank building and it veered to the left, jumping over the curb and stalling about 20 feet inside the city park.
It was not damaged.
The incident was seen by Night Watchman James Cole and City Policeman Walter Hill, who were standing in front of the E. G. Furniture store on the north side of the square. They rushed to the automobile and found Bourn slumped over in the front seat. He had no passengers at the time.
Bourn had never enjoyed good health throughout his lifetime, suffering from rheumatism and chronic heart trouble, which precluded his entrance into the armed forces during the war.
He was born here 25 years ago, the son of Walter and Celia Bourne. His father is an employe of the Illinois State School for the Deaf and his mother resides in Decatur.
He was married to Margaret. Clinton on May 20. 1944. They have one daughter, a 20-months-old daughter.
The body was taken to the Williamson Funeral home, where an inquest will be held today.2
