Private Norman Gough White, of the 2nd Battalion, Wellington Expeditionary Force, died of wounds on 9 August 1916, aged 21, and is buried in Stanwix Cemetery. Norman, who, according to the CWGC, was the son of Thomas W. White of 141 Devon Street, New Plymouth, New Zealand, was a plumber prior to enlisting. He embarked from Wellington, New Zealand, on 4 March 1916. He died from wounds at the Royal Infirmary, Leicester and was buried at Stanwix where his relatives lived.
Note by Rick - since we have not identified any Whilte family relatives in the area, the relatives mentioned above may have been on his mother's side of the family.7,1,8
Norman White is remembered on a gravemarker at Kopuatama Cemetery, Stratford District, New Zealand, which read "Norman son of above (Thomas William and Harriet White) killed in action in France Aged 21 years."
Note that despite what it says above, he was not technically "Killed in Action." He was actually wounded in France, and died of his wounds after being evacuated to a hospital in England.4
