A pretty but quiet wedding was solemnised at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Wood, of Delisle, Sask., Tuesday. August 3. when their daughter. Frances E., became the bride of Mr. Stuart Owen, of Detroit. Mich. The bride was charming in white satin and georgette and white picture hat and carried a bouquet of white carnations, sweet peas and fern. She was attended by her sister. Miss Margaret Wood, who wore a soft cream silk and pink hat and carried pink and white sweet peas, and fern. Mr. Owen was supported by Mr. John R. Wood, brother of the bride. Mrs. Kaake and Mr. Cook played the wedding march and during th signing of the register Miss Lillian Miller sang very sweetly "Because." Following the ceremony a dainty lunch was served. Miss Romena Miller presided over the punch bowl and Mrs. A. F. Olson cut the ices.
Mr. and Mrs. Owen left on th afternoon train for Detroit, Mich.

John Read Wood of Delisle began military service on 30 December 1915 at the age of 18 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 96th Battalion, Canadian Highlanders. He was a student with no previous military experience. He was described as being 5' 10" tall with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and fair hair. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his father, John Frank Wood of Delisle, Saskatchwan. He was assigned regimental number 204116.1
On 26 September 1916, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, his unit enmarked on the "S.S. Laconia" arriving in England on 06 Oct where they were transferred to the 92nd Battalion. He was assigned to the Canadian Machine Gun Depot.7
On 8 February 1917, He went to France to join the Canadian Machine Gun Pool, and on 22 Feb he was posted to the 7th Machine Gun Company. This company was absorbed into the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps. (C.M.G.C.) on 19 Mar 1918, where he was prompted to Corporal on 01 May.8
On 23 February 1918, He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery.9 Sgt. John Read Wood M.M. ended military service as part of general demobilization on 29 March 1919 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada, after serving with the 3rd Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps.
