     Valerie married Henry Vernon Frey Hume on 27 July 1946 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaG, HUME - HARE
A quiet wedding took place in St.tephens Broadway United Church, Winnipeg, Man., July 27 when Valerie Erma, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hare of Whitney, N.B. became the bride of Henry Vernon, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Hume of Carlyle, Sask. Rev. H. A. Frame offiicated.
The bride wore a white jersey dress with white accessories and carried a bouwuet of red roses.
After the ceremony the happy couple left for a short honeymoon at Grand Beach. On their return they will reside in Winnipeg.4,5
     In the obituary of Janet Hume who died 4 December 2007, Janet's sister-in-law, Valerie Hume was listed as predeceased.6
     In the obituary of Henry Hume who died 5 January 2009, his wife, Valerie Hume was listed as predeceased.5

     Walter was born on 19 January 1895 in Carroll, RM of Glenwood, Manitoba, CanadaG, according to Manitoba Birth Registration 1895,10911332.7,4,6,5 Walter married Eva Gladys Laing on 2 April 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaG.8,9 He died on 8 July 1965 in Welland, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 70.
     He also went by the name of Rainey or W.R.10
Canadian Military Service:
     Pte Walter Rainey Moffat began military service on 21 November 1916 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, CanadaG, joining the 249th Battalion. He was a Banker prior to enlisting. He served with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, B Squad from 1911 to 1913. Described as 5'6", fair complexion, brown eyes and auburn hair. He listed his next-of-kin as Anne Jane Moffat on his enlistment papers.5 Pte Walter Rainey Moffat ended military service as part of general demobilization on 28 March 1919 in Regina, Saskatchewan, CanadaG. He had served for four months in France with the C.C.C. (Canadian Cyclist Corps) or more formally, the Canadian Corps Cyclist Battalion starting Sep 26, 1918 when he was an Acting Corporal.

"It was during the last 100 days of the war that the Canadian Corps Cyclist Battalion came into its own. Freed from their earlier manual labour, the cyclists began to perform the intelligence work for which they had been trained. Sent in advance of the infantry to keep in touch with the retreating enemy, the cyclists acted as battalion runners, dispatchers and scouts, as well as soldiers who took part in direct combat".

     Walter Moffatt and Gladys appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of RM of Oakland, Manitoba, enumerated 1 June 1921. Walter was enumerated as a farmer. As was his mother, Annie Moffatt, sister, Isabel and grandfather, James Rainey, age 87.14
