     Mary McFarland began military service in 1942 joining the WAVES, taking her naval traniing at the University of Wisconsin. She later transferred to the SPARS, the Coast Gaurd Women's Auxialliary shortly after it was formed 23 Nov 1942. She served in San Francisco as a radioman, second class. SPARS stands for "Semper Paratus—Always Ready".2

Mary McFarland Married in San Francisco
     McLEAN. (PNS) Mr. and Mrs. Paul McFarland, have announced" the marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Dr. Donald F. Erickson, at 8 p. m.j Monday, Nov. 1. The candlelight service was held before an altar banked with white chrysanthemums, in the chapel of the First Presbyterian church in San Francisco. The single ring ceremony was performed by Chaplain Hugh Miller, Lt. (j. g.), U. S. N. R., with the coast guard. The organist was also a coast guardsman.
     Bridal Party In Uniform.
     The couple was attended by Miss Eileen Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa; and Dr. Herbert Notkin, Lt. (J. St.) U. S. N. R.,attached to the coast guard. Both the bride and her maid of honor, wore the uniform of the Spars, of which they are members.. They have been together since they entered training at the University of Wisconsin more than a year ago. A dinner for the wedding party was given at the "Julius Castle" on the historic Telegraph Hill.
     Before entering the service, the bride was a junior at Illinois Wesleyan university, and a member of Sigma Kappa sorority.
     Dr. Erickson is a son of Dr. and Mrs. P. W. Erickson, of Seattle, Wash., the former being the pastor of the University Presbyterian church in that city. He is a graduate of Northwestern Medical college, and served his interneship (sic) in Passavant and Memorial hospitals in Chicago, and in Harbor View hospital, in Seattle, where he had established his private practice before entering the service. He is a lieutenant (j. g.), in the United States Naval Reserve, assigned to duty in the Coast Guard, stationed at San Francisco.
     Bride in Connecticut.
     After completing training in the Waves, the bride was transferred to the newly organized Spars, where she held the rank of radio man, second class, at the San Francisco coast guard base. She was recently recommended for officers training by her superior officer, and on Wednesday following her marriage, she started for New London, Conn., from where after a few weeks, she will go to Mt. Holyoke, College. Mass., to complete the 16 weeks training for her ensigns commission.3

     In the obituary of Anne Claire Erickson who died 6 September 2011, her mother, Mary M. Erickson, of Seattle, was listed as surviving.4

     He was born circa 1832 at Upper Canada, British North America.1,2,3 Alternatively, he may have been born in December 1833 at British North America.4 Peter married Catherine Gibson circa 1856, since they reported being married for 44 years in the 1900 census.4,2,3
     Peter Ferguson died on 7 December 1922 at Two Harbors, Lake County, Minnesota, USA.1
     Peter and Catherine Ferguson appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Ross Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. Peter was described as a farmer. Their children, Duncan, William, Peter, Emma Blair, Margaret, Issabella, Joseph, Florance and Normon, were listed as living with them.3
     Peter and Catherine Ferguson appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Ross Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. Peter was described as a farmer and a Presbyterian. Their children, Emma, Peter, Isabella, Margt, Joseph, Florance, Norman, Bertha and Annie, were listed as living with them.2
     Pete and Catherine Ferguson appeared on the 1900 U.S. Federal Census of Drayton, Pembina County, North Dakota, enumerated 23 June 1900, described as a farmer on his own farm. Their children: Bertha J. and Annie S., were listed as living with them. Their granddaughter, Emma B. Jamieson was included in the household. Catherine had had 12 children, with 10 living at the time of the census.4
     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Grand Forks Herald published in Grand Forks, North Dakota 12 December 1922:
Drayton Pioneer Dies At Age Of 90; Was Buried Sunday
     Drayton, N.D., Dec. 12. — Funeral services were held here Sunday for Peter Ferguson, age 90, one of the earliest pioneers of this section of Pembina county. The aged mail died at Two Harbors, Minn., December 7.
     Mr. Ferguson came to Dakota territory from Ontario in 1882. He and three of his sons homesteaded north of the present site of this city. Prior to coming west Mr. Ferguson led a very picturesque life as a lumberman in the Ontario woods.
     The deceased is survived by five sons and four daughters.
     Up until a short time before his death the aged man was in fairly good health. He was possibly the oldest man in the community and is one of the last of the pioneers of this section.1
