Oct. 27, 1879 is probably a more accurate date of death for Elizabeth that the 1884 date given on the death registration record submitted by her brother-in-law, John A Jamieson on Dec 31, 1885. This was the same date that he registered the death of his father, William.
The 1881 census shows that her husband, Robert was a widower and her sister, Rebecca was a servant in the household.
Robert and Rebecca were married on April 11, 1884 and he was shown as a widower on the marriage registration.9,4,6

Mrs. Emma Erickson, the wife of Rev. P. W. Erickson of the Presbyterian church of this city, died at a local hospital following a serious operation which she underwent a few days ago. Her condition has been dangerous for several days.8
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
Emma Blair Erickson's (née Jamieson) death certificate gives her birth date as 16 Jan 1888, and her mother's maiden name as Emma B. Ferguson. The 1900 census gives her birth date as Jan 1888. This appears to verify that she was born in 1888.
A cemetery transcription and the Find A Grave memorial page for her mother, Emma Blair Jamieson née Ferguson, gives her date of death as 01 Feb 1887 which was prior to Emma's birth. When you look at the photo of the grave marker on Find A Grave, the last digit of the year is obscured by grass. Only the top of the last digit is visible. It could be a 7 and is not an 8.
It is possible that Emma Blair Jamieson died shortly after Emma Blair Erickson's birth, possibly even from complications of that birth.
I conclude, for now, that the date of death on Emma Blair Jamieson's Find A Grave memorial page is probably correct. The mystery remains.10
