Military Service - Confederate Army

     Isaac Ewen Tanner began military service on 6 November 1861 at the age of 17 at Sabine Pass serving as a Private in Co E, Spaight's Battalion of the Confederate Army. It was also known as the 15th Regiment, Texas Infantry. Sabine Pass is now a neighborhood within Port Arthur Texas.⁷
     On 15 April 1864, He was detached from the Company for guard duty at Burr's Ferry. He continued to serve there unti lat least Nov 1864. Note that no battles were fought there, but the earthworks still exist today.⁹ Isaac Ewen Tanner ended military service as part of general demobilization in May 1865
