Frank Hallyburton of Amherst began military service on 8 March 1916 at the age of 34 at Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada, joining the 193rd Overseas Battalion of the C.E.F. He was a stone cutter by trade and only served in Canada. He was discharged as Medically Unfit. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin as his wife, Mary Roland Hallyburton of Amherst. He was described as being 5' 5", 120 lbs. and having a clear complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. His service number was 901150.4 Frank Hallyburton ended his military service after service in Canada on 15 May 1918 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, as being medically unfit for further service. He was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis at the Aldershot camp in Nova Scotia in July 1916 where it was deemed he became ill due to exposure, specifically the tents were wet inside, and the bedding was never dry. By 1918 it was found that further treatment at the Kentville sanatorium was of no material benefit. His character and conduct were "very good".
