He was born on 15 January 1823 at Germany according to the 1901 census.5,6 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1833 at Germany since he was reported as age 29 in 1862 Brandenburg emigration records, but his wife is 37, and he has a 17 year old son. Other sources reporting 1823 as year of birth are probably more accurate.7 Carl married Johanna Charlotte Caroline Quast before 1845.8,5,6
Carl Ludwig Pfannenhauer was described as Tageloehner, a land laborer earning daily wage in kind (Deputat), some cash. in 1862.9,10 He and Johanna Charlotte Caroline Quast emigrated in 1862 from Germany originating from Breitenstein/Friedeberg (Germany) to North America.11 Carl Ludwig Pfannenhauer immigrated in 1863 to Canada West, United Province of Canada, from Germany according to the 1901 census.5 He was naturalized in 1876 Canadian.5
Carl and Charlotte Phaninhaur appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Algona Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 4 April 1881. Carl was described as Methodist Canada and a Farmer. Their children, Matilda and Mary, were listed as living with them.6
