     Special to The Evening Citizen.
RENFREW. Feb. 27.—John B. McLaren, one of the most prominent farmers of this district, died at Victoria Hospital here this morning. For some time he had been under treatment for an infection in his leg, and on Sunday, Doctors Murphy, Burwell and Wade operated and amputated the leg above the knee in an effort to save his life. He had been in the hospital for six weeks. Born on the old homestead, 63 years ago, he was the oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLaren. His father had been for 45 years secretary of the Renfrew Agricultural Society. The late Mr. McLaren was a past president of the society, and was this year a vice-president. He owned many farms the district, and on Saturday last, had sold the John Airth farm, adjoining the town. This farm was known for many years as the model farm of Renfrew, and the late Mr. McLaren had purchased it a year ago. The sale price received on Saturday was said to be about $20,000.
The late Mr. McLaren was an enthusiastic official of the Renfrew exhibition and a member of Renfrew A.F. and A.M. He is survived by his widow, formerly Elizabeth Campbell, to whom he eras married on Christmas Day, 1889; six sons, Robert, of Sudbury; James, Donald, William Alex. and Harry McLaren, of Renfrew; four daughters, Mrs. F. Manion, of Renfrew; the Misses Mary and Agnes, nurses in New York City, and Catherine, at home, and three brothers, Robert A. McLaren, of Renfrew; Donald McLaren, of Vancouver, and William D. McLaren, of Winnipeg.
The late Mr. McLaren was highly esteemed in the district and his passing will be deeply mourned by a host of friends. He was a member of Renfrew United church. Four of his sons. James, Donald, William and Alex. served overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces during the Great War.
The funeral takes place Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence to Renfrew cemetery. Rev. James Rollins, pastor of Renfrew United church, will conduct the service. There will also be a Masonic funeral service.10
