Irma Alford Sowell
     KALISPELL--Irma Alford So-well, 83, of Kalispell, died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Brendan House Extended Care Facility. She was born Dec. 16, 1903, in Shelby County, Texas, to Lawrence and Margaret Alford. Educated in Texas, she was a graduate of the Stephen F. Austin Teachers College in Nacogdoches.
     In 1930 she married Ellis M. Sowell in Nacogdoches. He preceded her in death.
     Mrs. Sowell was an elementary school teacher in the Fairfax County public schools in Virginia until her retirement in 1969. She then lived in Fort Worth, Texas, until she moved to Kalispell in 1984.
     She was a member of University Christian Church in Fort Worth.
     Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Williams of Houston.
     Survivors include her son, Dr. Ellis M. Sowell, Kalispell; two brothers, Elward Alford, Chandler, Texas, and Willie Alford, Kountze, Texas; and two grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Howard Mars officiating. The body will be taken to Fort Worth for services and burial later this week.
     The family suggests memorials lo the Ag Field Scholarship Fund of-Bethlchem Lutheran Church.
     The Johnson Mortuary in Kalispell is in charge of arrangements.

     IRMA ALFORD SOWELL 83 passed away Sunday. Retired teacher and former Fort Worth resident. She was born in Shelby County Graduated from Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College in Nacogdoches in 1932. Wife of Dr Ellis M Sowell, Dean of the School of University serving 1944-1956. She lived in Fort Worth until 1957. She was an elementary school teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia from 1957 until she retired in 1969. She returned to Fort Worth in 1970 and moved to Kalispell in 1984. She was an honorary member of the University Place Book Club and a charter member of the Fort Worth Women of Rotaary. Survivors: Son, Dr. Ellis M Sowell, Kalispell, Montana; brothers, Elward Alford ,Chandler Willie Alford, Kountze; two grandchildren. Services 2p.m. Thursday University Christian Church. Mrs. Alford died Wednesday at her residence after a lengthy illness.

She and her husband, E.B. Alford, Lake Palestine, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Jan. 28, 1990.
Mrs. Alford was a retired elementary school teacher, teaching in the Westwood Independent School District.
Survivors include her husband, E.B. Alford, Lake Palestine; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Pace McDonald III, Palestine; a daughter, Jo Elaine Quinata, San Antonio; a son, Elward D. Alford, Georgetown; her father, M.B. Gilmore, Elkhart; a brother, Raymond Gilmore, Nacogdoches; a sister, Ruby Averitte, Slocum; six grandchildren, Amanda Estes, Pace McDonald IV, Rena Jo Quinata, Matthew Quinata, Leilani Quinata and Noel Quinata; and a great- grandchild, Cody T. Estes.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Lightfoot, Henry Bise, Pace McDonald IV, Lloyd Stanridge, Al Lightfoot, Carlton Brooks, Jack Estes and James Ray Ives.

     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Champion published in Center, Texas circa 11 August 1968 :
Eric Clarence Alford, 64, of Shelbyville died suddenly on August 8 from a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel on August 10 with the Rev. Ron Hansen and Mr. C.C. Adkins officiating ministers. Interment was in the Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Born and reared in Shelby County, Mr. Alford was foreman for Pitts Construction company. He was a member of Masonic Lodge of Shelbyville, Texas, Sam Houston #32.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Lorena Alford of Shelbyville; a daughter, Mrs. Guy Cisco of Alamagorda, N.M; 5 grandchildren; the mother, Mrs. Lee Ella Alford of Shelbyville; a brother, John Alford of Shelbyville; and a sister, Mrs. Selma Gibson, of Lufkin.
Pallbearers were O.F. Adams, Leon Shillings, Jack Case, Eric Forbis, Gilbert Wheeler, Paul Carlsile, Rick Stevens and Bill Stevens.
