     William S Walwin and Brooklena appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Caledon Twp., Peel County, Ontario, enumerated 5 June 1911. William was enumerated as "sawmill and farmer" and a Presbyterian. Their children Elizabeth and George L were listed as living with them. As was an Aunt, Mary Bowering.3
     William Shawcroft Walwin immigrated in 1855 or 1856 to Canada from England.2,3

had a carriage factory in Melville, where he built and repaired horse carriages. About this time, William changed the spelling from Wallwin to Walwin.

About 1890 William bought the mill farm on the 5th Concession of Caledon West Twp., Peel Co., Ont. where his family grew up.1

Canadian Military Service

     George Shawcroft Walwin was conscripted on 10 January 1918 at Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada, called up after a Disposition of Claim dated Nov. 14, 1917 (799836.) I assume he had claimed an exemption from the draft which was denied, but more research is required. He joined the O.C. Can Engineers as a Sapper. His regimental number was 2007029.

At this time he was described as being 5'6" tall, with a chest measurement of 34" to 37 1/2". He had a medium complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. There was a scar on his shin, he had wax in his right ear and he had bad teeth.5
