Canadian Military Service

     George Shawcroft Walwin was conscripted on 10 January 1918 at Toronto, York County, Ontario, Canada, called up after a Disposition of Claim dated Nov. 14, 1917 (799836.) I assume he had claimed an exemption from the draft which was denied, but more research is required. He joined the O.C. Can Engineers as a Sapper. His regimental number was 2007029.

At this time he was described as being 5'6" tall, with a chest measurement of 34" to 37 1/2". He had a medium complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. There was a scar on his shin, he had wax in his right ear and he had bad teeth.⁵
     George L Walwin appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Caledon Twp., Peel County, Ontario in the household of his parents, William and Brookline Walwin.⁴
     George L Walwin appeared in the 1911 Canadian Census of Caledon Twp., Peel County, Ontario in the household of his parents, William and Brooklena Walwin.⁶
     Note regarding George Shawcroft Walwin: George was a CPR Station Agent after WW1, then purchased Richmond Hill Dairy. He was active in community and sports, President of the Lions Club in 1944 and on the High School Board of Education.¹
