Services for Charlie M. Alford, 70, of 1001 Durham, a retired Brownwood fire chief, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Austin Ave. Church of Christ with ministers Bob Walden and Pete Hanks officiating.

Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Alford died at 9:45 p.m. Friday in Brownwood Community Hospital after a short illness. He had attended the Brownwood-Iowa Park football game earlier.

A Brownwood resident 57 years, he was secretary-treasurer of the Greenleaf Cemetery Assn. and a member of the Austin Ave. Church of Christ.

Born Feb. 26, 1901 at Burnet, he married Willie B. Guthrie May 18, 1929 at Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Monroe Allen Alford of Buena Park, Calif., Rex Alvis Alford of Norwalk, Calif and Charlie M. Alford of Glendale, Calif; three brothers, Preston Alford and Asa Alford, both of Abilene, and Jess Alford of Brownwood; one sister, Mrs. Roy Hitchcock of Brownwood; either grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Alford died at 3 a.m. Thursday [February 10] at the nursing home after a long illness.
Born June 16, 1894 in Burnet, he married Susie Medlin in 1915 in Ruth. She died in 1977. He worked at Brownwood Refinery in Brownwood before moving to Abilene in 1924. He was employed at the Abilene Candy Factory and at Mead’s Bakery. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter; a son; a brother, Jess Alford of Brownwood; a sister, Mrs. Roy Hitchcock of Brownwood; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

     He died on 27 November 1895 in Cobourg, Hamilton Twp., Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada, at age 64 according to Ontario Death Registration 013958. His occupation was given as a bill poster. Note that Find A Grave gives a date one year later, and his gravestone may show 1896 as the year of his death.2,1 The cause of his death was given as heart disease and dropsy.2 Daniel Jeffrey was buried in Bowmanville Cemetery, Bowmanville, Regional Municipality of Durham, Ontario, Canada.1

Mrs. Mary B. Alford Claimed By Death; Funeral Wednesday
Mrs. Mary Bell Alford, 1505 Melwood, died in a local nursing home 10:25 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of London-Burton Funeral Home with John Stephens of Abilene Christian College, Frank Lilly, minister of Sixth Street Church of Christ, and Herbert Newman, minister of Austin Avenue Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.

Mrs. Alford was born Aug. 5, 1870, at Giddings. She had been a resident of Brownwood since 1905.

She is survived by six sons, Jess L. and Charles M. Alford of Brownwood, P. B. and A. E. Alford of Abilene, G. T. Alford of Carbon, and W. A. Alford of Midland; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Hitchcock and Mrs. R. H. Shores, both of Brownwood; 15 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
