Beloved Mother and Wife Called
Mrs. Walter Maitland Dies in Her Home Monday Night; Funeral Services to be Held on Thursday, Burial in Ohio Grove

Mrs. Walter Maitland, 82 years old, a resident of Sycamore or Sycamore community all of her life, esteemed and well liked, died in her home at 603 DeKalb avenue, shortly after 8 o'clock Monday evening. She had been ill for approximately three weeks, but had been ailing for several years.

Born in Burlington
Evaline Duck, daughter of Simon and Anne Duck, natives of Scarborough, England, was born in Burlington township, January 13, 1858. The family moved to Sycamore township when she was a baby. She was married to Walter Maitland March 6, 1880. They moved to Iowa that year, settling in Boone county. They returned one year later. Mr. Maitland returned in a covered wagon, but Mrs. Maitland, being ill, came home on a train.

Mrs. Maitland belonged to no church and to no clubs. She was a hard working, home loving body, greatly devoted to her husband and family. Of a friendly disposition, she acquired many friends. As age grew upon her, she lost some of her activity, but kept her interest in her family and in her home to the last.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Arthur of Rockford; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Zwiger, also of Rockford; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Services will be held from Kebil funeral home at 2 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. H. L. Michael officiating, with burial in Ohio Grove cemetery.2

Local and Personal Brevities
"Jane Eyre" last Thursday evening attracted an audience which nearly filled the opera house. It was a high-class, affecting drama presented by a strong cast of talented players, and all who heard it were more than pleased. Dwight A Mead, who played the important part of Rochester is, by the way, a cousin of Arthur Maitland and Mr. Fred Zwiger of Sycamore. His home is at Elgin, where his mother, Mrs. Jennie Mead, resides.5

Dewight A. appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Elgin, Elgin Twp., Kane County, Illinois in the household of hismother, Jennet Meade, listed as an actor in a theatre.9

He played the character of Harvey Meade in the radio soap opera "Harvey and Dell."
His wife, Doris, played Dell Meade, the mother. Their daughter, Dorothy, played their daughter of the same name.
