In Memoriam
Mrs. Sallie Hayden died at her home south of Madison, June 3, 1913. Miss Sallie Swindell was born July 11, 1855. She married to T.E.T. Hayden, September 9, 1875. To this union six children were born four of whom survive, namely, Mrs. Roy Crim, Mrs. Chas Holohan and Ira and Robert Hayden. Also two sisters, Mrs. T. B. Ragland and Mrs. W.O. Maxey.
Mrs. Hayden possessed all the Christian virtues. She was kind, thoughtful and trusting. She died with a smile on her pure face, and her last words were those of love.
Her funeral sermon was preached by Bro. Powell, and her casket was buried in flowers which were brought by loving hands. Then she was layed (sic) to rest in the "Low Green Vine whose curtain never swings open."
Another home has been made desolate, and loving children bereaved of a devoted mother.
How few homes where the dark shadow has not fallen?
How few who are strangers to the anguish, and tears wrought by visitations of the reaper death. But amid our lamentations we hear words of promised help -- Jesus said, "hat believeth in me shall never die."
To the smitten children these words should be like cool water to the hunted deer, and the fragrant flower to the hungry bee. Mothers sweet trusting spirit is at rest, and shortly you will know that lengthenened (sic) breath is not the greatest boon, God gives his child.
"She is not dead; his friend - not dead. Gone some few trusting steps ahead, and nearer to the end, so that you too, once part the bend. Shall meet again as face to face this friend.
Your fancy dead.12

The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
Since the 1880 census includes W. Leonidas Hayden, living with his parents, it is apparent that the Kuhn family history was incorrect in showing that he died at the age of 18 months. I have suppressed the birth and death dates based upon the fmaily history.
The Find A Grave memorial page appears to be accurate, although dates on the grave marker photos are difficult to read.12,8,13

JURY'S VERDICT IN HAYDEN INQUEST
The jury that served at the inquest into the death of Robert, the locomotive fireman who at the inquest Hayden, who died of injuries received in a railroad collision at the Pittsmont mine last Thursday, brought in the following verdict:
"We find from evidence introduced that Engineer Hall should have noticed Engine No. 1072 and the train of cars attched to it in time to avoid collision. We are further of the opinion that those in charge of engine No. 1072 were in no wise to blame for the accident in which Robert Hayden received fatal injuries."
Engineer Hall, himself very badly burned by steam at the time Hayden was injured in the same way, was onthe smae engine as the latter. Engine 1072 was derailed by the engine driven by Hall when they collided.8
In the obituary of Mae Hayden Crim who died 10 July 1938, her brother, Robert Hayden was listed as predeceased.9
