     He was born on 28 February 1894 at Llanerchymedd, Wales.1 John married Sarah J. Hughes circa 27 September 1917 at Anglesey, Wales, having received permission to marry on that date.2,3
     Introductory Overview:
     John Owens is not included in the Asquith and District Honour Roll for WWI.
Other comments:
     I had tentatively identified this man as a candiate for inclusion in my ducumentation of Asquith soldiers of WWI. I have since confirmed the real identify of the J. E. Owen included in the Asquith Honour Roll.1

Canadian Military Service - WWI

     John Owens of Saskatoon began military service on 7 December 1915 at the age of 21 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 65th Battalion. He was an unmarried farmer with no prior military experience.. He was described as being 5'6" tall with blue eyes, fair hair and a fair complexion. He was assigned regimental number 472773.1
     On 18 June 1916, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, his unit embarked on the "S. S. Empress of Britain", arriving at Liverpool on the 28th. He went to France as part of the 46th Battalion on 10 Aug 1916. On the 27 Sep 1917 he received permission to marry.1
     On 3 September 1918, at France, he received a gun shot wound to his left thigh and was discharged from hospital 18 Oct 1918 with no disability.1 Pte. John Owens ended military service as part of general demobilization on 7 May 1919 at London, England, after he requested to remain in England/Wales rather than returing to Canada. He intended to live at Llanerchymeed, Anglesey, North Wales.

     He was included on a passenger manifest for the "Tunisian" from Liverpool dated 30 March 1913 arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was bound for Melita, Manitoba. Hugh Owens who was listed right before him was going to Saskatoon. Both were going "farming." They may or may not have been related.4
     John and Sarah J. Owen appeared on the 1939 England and Wales Register, at Twrcelyn Rural District, Anglesey, enumerated effective 29 Sep 1939, described as described as a mason. They had 5 children or whom three have their names unavailable because their records are "officailly closed.5'
