Otter Lake Man Killed
     Earl Mayhew Victim in Hunting Tragedy
     SHAWVILLE, Sept 29. (Special)--The top of his head almost blown off when the high-powered rifle with which he had been hunting deer accidentally discharged as he was removing it from a boat early this afternoon, Earl Mayhew, 28-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mayhew, of Otter Lake, was instantly killed.
     Dr. L. Renaud, coroner, was summoned, but has not decided on an inquest as yet.
     Mayhew had been hunting with his father. They had just returned. empty handed, and had landed the boat Mr. Mayhew Sr. had left his son to secure the boat and remove the hunting gear from it. He heard the sound of a shot and, upon returning to the boat, found the body of his son lying in the shallow water at the side of the boat.
     As the young man was taking the gun from the boat it had apparently caught on some article of clothing lying in the boat and had discharged, the bullet tearing a great gash in the top of Mayhew's head.
     Earl Mayhew was born at Otter Lake, and there, one year ago, married Lorena Dagenais. She survives him. together with his three sisters, Gertrude, Doris and Ida, all at home; his parents, and his four, brothers, Wellington, Denzil, Melvin and Emile, all at home.
     Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed.2

     In the obituary of Denzil Joseph Mayhew who died 20 May 1998, his brother, Earl Mayhew, was listed as predeceased.3
     In the obituary of Emile Mayhew who died 22 January 2017, his brother, Earl Mayhew, was listed as predeceased.4
