Local News
...It was with pleasure that we read an account of the recognition services held at the South Congregational church, of Salem, Mass., as published in the Evening News, of that city, which occurred at 7:30 p. in. Wednesday, September 21, when Rev.Thomas Guy Langdale was installed as pastor. The half-tone cut printed on the first page of the leaflet giving the order of services shows the edifice to be a large and handsome stone structure. This church building is the home of an organization more than 132 years old, and our friend T. G. is only the eighth pastor that has served this organization since the beginning. When that church secured a good minister they kept him, and they did not depart from their rule of selecting the best when they called the Rev. Thomas Guy Langdale. That gentleman is one of honor and sincerity, as well as one of exceptional ability. That he lived the doctrines he preached made him popular and a man of influence during his pastorate in this city, now nearly twelve years past, and that fact doubtless is responsible for his being today the pastor of one of the leading congregations in the east. That he stands high in the councils of the Congregational church in the United States today is a matter of rejoicing to the old De Smet friends of of Rev. Thomas Guy Landgale (sic), and especially to this writer as we always regarded him among our warm personal friends. That the success already achieved by him is only the beginning of a still greater career is the personal wish of this writer.18
