She was born on 7 March 1902 at Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA.4,5,6,7,8,9 Edith married Walker Eugene Stallings on 23 May 1928 at Denver, Adams County, Colorado, USA.10,8,11
Edith Rust died on 9 June 1987 at Clarke County, Georgia, USA, at age 85.4,5

Military Service

Edith Rust began military service in September 1942 at the age of 40 at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, USA, enlisting in the Women's Reserve of the U. S. Naval Reserve as an ensign in the administrative field.12 Comdr. Edith Stallings ended her military service circa 1947 having served in the "Air" WAVES including district chief in Jacksonville and Opalocka..
End of Military Service section.13

She was also known as Edith J. Langdale.7,9 Her parents, Albert Anthony Rust and Viola Langdale divorced on 16 April 1904 at Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA, and her mother appears to have been given custody.14
Edith Rust was referenced in a report of 4 generations having a visit published on 23 June 1904 at the newspaper the Lawrenceburg Press.1
She, carried the bride's boquet, at the wedding of William Garfield Braffett and Viola L. Rust on 24 March 1906.15 Edith Rust appeared on the 1910 U.S. Federal Census of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, in the household of Robert H. Langdale and Harries (sic) I. Langdale.9
At Thanksgiving in 1914, she was referenced as being from Milford, Ohio.16
Edith J. Langdale appeared on the 1920 U.S. Federal Census of Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts, in the household of Thomas G and Edith H. Langdale.7
Walker E. and Edith Stallings appeared on the 1930 U.S. Federal Census of Boise, Ada County, Idaho, U.S. Veterans Bureau, Military Barracks, Precinct 9, enumerated 2 April 1930, described as a medical physician. Their children: Allan M., were listed as living with them. He was 22 at the time of his first marriage (in about 1918) and she was 26 at the time of her first marriage (about 1928.) Therefore, Walker's daughter would have been Edith's step-daughter.8
In the obituary of Dr. Walker Eugene Stallings who died 6 May 1933, his second wife, the former Edith Langsdale (sic), was listed as a survivor.17 She was included on a passenger manifest travelling from Le Havre, France having departed 5 Aug, 1933 on the Ausonia arriving dated 13 August 1933 Port of Québec, Québec, Canada. Her Aunt and Uncle, Charlotte and Charles Langdale were on the same ship. They returned to the USA through the port of St. Albans, Vermont.18
The following article appeared in the Dothan, Alabama The Dothan Eagle, 4 September 1942 :
Alabama Graduate Enlists In WAVES
UNIVERSITY, Ala. — Mrs. Edith Langdale Stallings, a graduate of the University of Alabama in 1941 and house director of East Annex and Colonial Hall, was called this week to service in the Women's Reserve of the U. S. Naval Reserve.
She will report to Smith College in Massachusetts for a four-month training period, leading to the appointment of the rank of Ensign in the administrative field of the V. S. Naval Reserve.
Besides her Master of Arts degree from the Capstone she was awarded her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire and has served an internship at John Hopkins. She is a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.12

In the obituary of Charles Andrew Langdale who died 26 October 1953, his niece, Edith Stallings, was listed as a survivor.10
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
The 1910 census shows that Viola was the mother of one living child. When she remarried in 1906, "Little Edith Langdale" preceded the bride during the wedding. I presumed that Edith was the child of Viola and her first husband, Albert Rust. After Albert and Viola divorced and she reverted to her maiden name, she may have also changed Edith's surname.
The 1904 news item above clarifies the relationship of 4 generations in one short report of a visit.19

     Research notes (April 2023):

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Idaho Statesman published in Boise, Idaho 7 May 1933:
Doctor Stallings Of Boise Veterans Bureau Succumbs
Dr. Walker Stallings, former head of the tuberculosis ward of the Boise veterans' hospital, died at a Denver sanitarium early Saturday night, friends at Boise were advised Saturday. Services will be held at Denver and the body to taken (sic) to Newport, Ark., his home for burial.
Doctor Stallings, who was in his late 30s, became afflicted with tuberculosis shortly after the war but it was considered an arrested case when he was given charge of the work at the Boise hospital. His interest in all tuberculosis cases was so keen and his study of the disease so thorough that he was appointed state advisor for the Idaho tuberculosis work immediately after passage of the tubercular hospital bill two years ago. He discovered about a year ago that he was again afflicted and resigned his work in Boise immediately and went to a sanitarium in Denver, hoping for a second cure.
His wife and 12-year-old daughter, Millie, accompanied him.
The Stallings were exceedingly popular socially as well as professionally in Boise and they have a wide circle of friends. The doctor was a member of El Korah temple of the Shrine and the Boise lodge of Elks. His wife was a prominent member of the Boise chapter D.A.R., and the College Women's club.11
