John Bryan Briscoe was referenced in a newspaper article about John Mayhew Briscoe on 8 January 1932 at the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002), Eganville, Ontario, Canada; The Briscoe Store at Northcote Burned
When Mr. John M. Briscoe of Northcote left his store for his home close at hand at 10:40 o'clock on the night of December 23rd, everything appeared to be in the usual order. Shortly afterward fire broke out in the store from a cause so far unknown. The building was a flat-roofed one with brick walls. The roof fell in; all stock was burned. There was a loss of $10,000, about half of it covered by insurance. A small building a few feet from the store occupied by Mr. Briscoe’s son, J.B. was also burned.
Forty feet away was the merchant's residence. This was unharmed in any way. A hedge of spruce trees between the store and the residence was also unharmed. No wind was blowing at the time.
Upstairs in the store were seventeen fine silver-fox pelts worth in all $900. These were entirely destroyed.7
