Diane Vermaat incorrectly reports (I believe) that Lewis Clinton Mayhew was the son of Jacob and Lucie?, and grandson of Joseph Mayhew and Marion Ferguson. She also records that Jacob and Minnie Kosmack had an unnamed son who died a week after his mother's death in childbirth. This unnamed son was Louis or Lewis Clinton Mayhew.11

School Land Sales
Chief Objection at Brandon Was That Bidders Were Slow - Evidence of Purchasers and Auctioneer — ...The first case taken up was that of Mr. Ira Mayhew. He testified that he wanted to buy a certain quarter of land. He was somewhat deaf and when he finally asked the auction when this certain quarter was to be put up he was informed that the Iand had already been sold. He had driven 25 miles to buy the land and! was prepared to pay $20 per acre for it. He wanted the land for farming purposes and not for speculation. Cross-examined. Mr. Mayhew admitted that it was largely due to his deafness that he did not get the land. He thought the auctioneer might have gone a little slower.16
