It appears from a note in the info that Joseph and Charles's parents left Quebec and moved to the States, it doesn't say what year, but it would of been sometime after 1806, because Charles was born in 1806 in Quebec. During those years a lot of the French moved to Vermont.7

It appears from a note in the info that Joseph and Charles's parents left Quebec and moved to the States, it doesn't say what year, but it would of been sometime after 1806, because Charles was born in 1806 in Quebec. During those years a lot of the French moved to Vermont.8

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Eganville Leader published in Eganville, Ontario 2 March 1923 :
Two of Admaston Township's pioneers went to their well earned rest within 14 hours of each other during the past week when two sisters, Mary Ann Mayhew (Mrs. Brian Briscoe) and Hannah Mayhew (Mrs James Ferguson Sr) passed away in the fullness of years, the former in her 85th year and the latter in her 84th year. They were the daughters of Charles Mayhew and Anne New, who were among the early settlers in Renfrew and resided in the early days, in Thompsonville just east of the creek, now known as Horton Street.
They both received their education in the old school house in Renfrew, their schoolmates being the older generation of the Barrs, the Airths and the other early settlers. They moved to the township of Admaston with their parents when they were young girls of 13 and 14 and grew up to young womanhood at their parent's home there, taking part in the quiet, hospitable social life of the community.1

According to Diane Vermaat, Brian Brisco and Mary Ann Mayhew also raised their granddaughter, Ordella Moore. However, he died in 1877, 20 years before Ordellia's birth.
Ordella was not enumerated with her parents in the 1901 census, indicating that someone else may have been caring for her.
In balance, I discount Diane's information at this time (Feb 2024.)25

They moved to the township of Admaston with their parents when they were young girls of 13 and 14 and grew up to young womanhood at their parent's home there, taking part in the quiet, hospitable social life of the community.7

Wedding
The home of Mrs Thos. Plaunt, Sr., Northcote, was the scene of a very pleasing event on Wednesday afternoon, 19th inst., when Maggie S. Plaunt was united in marriage to Mr. C. W. Mayhew, also of that place. The day was bright, the sun smiling upon the bridal party as they took their places on the lawn in front of the house at 3:30; while Mrs. J.A. Plaunt played the wedding march. Mr. X. Plaunt gave the bride away, and she was accompanied by Miss Lucy Mayhew, her bridesmaid, while Mr. T. Gibbons did the duties of best man. The bride looked pretty in blue poplin, trimmed with white brocaded silk, and white applique with a drop yoke of white brocaded silk. The bridesmaid was similarly attired. Rev. D. H. Hodges pronounced the solemn words which made the two one. After the congratulations about sixty guests sat down to tables laden with good things and tastily decorated with flowers, etc. There was music at intervals, and after a very sociable time the bridal party and many of the friends drove to the home of the groom, where a reception was held the same evening. The presents which were numerous, pretty and valuable, showed the esteem in which the bride was held. Mr. and Mrs. Mayhew have the best wishes of a host of friends for their future happiness.22

Fired By Lightning
About half-past three on Friday afternoon, a thunderstorm passed over the town and vicinity, and the accompanying electricity did considerable damage to the property of Mr John Mayhew, about three miles out of town, in Admaston. Lightning struck one of his barns, and as it was filled with straw, fire flashed at once. Inside of ten minutes that and an adjoining barn and a granary, were a mass of flames. Mr Mayhew did not notice what was transpiring for some moments, and arrived on the spot just about the same time as his nearest neighbor. Mr Wm. Stewart. There was then no possibility of saving anything inside the building; but the two buckled on to a self-binder that was standing near, and got It away from danger only after they themselves were pretty well scorched. There was nothing of great value inside the barns, but a number of little things in machinery and a couple of pigs were burned. The barns were worth at least $300 each. The granary was not very valuable but there was stored about $100 worth of oats in it, and these were destroyed. About fifty neighbors gathered to fight the further progress of the flames, and, aided by a change of wind, managed to save the stable and house. The stable had a narrow escape, and some of the fire-fighters were well roasted before they conquered the flames. Mr Mayhew had no insurance. Just the day before, Mr Leonard, of the Renfrew Farmers' Mutual, had been urging him to insure, but he decided that he would wait till the crop was being gathered.9

John and Margret Mayhew appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Westmeath Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a Barber and a Presbyterian. It is interesting that he claimed that he was of Scottish descent although his family line can be traced back to early Québec and to France.4 John W. Mayhew was the informant on the death registration of his infant son, James Lindsay Mayhew, who died on 22 July 1902.10 John W. Mayhew, of Renfrew, was the informant on the death registration of James Ferguson, who died on 14 April 1909.11
William John and Margaret Mayhew appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Renfrew, Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 12 June 1911. William was described as a barber. His mother-in-law, Hannah Ferguson was living with them.12
John W. and Margret Mayhew appeared on the 1921 Canadian Census of Renfrew, Renfrew County, Ontario, enumerated 1 June 1921. John was described as a mechanic. His mother-in-law, Hannah Ferguson was still living with them.13 John Mayhew was the informant on the death registration of his wife, Margaret Ferguson Mayhew, who died on 7 December 1936.7

The following biographical information was shared at an email from Diane Vermaat, 11 November 2003:
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.

The following biographical information was shared at an email from Diane Vermaat, 11 November 2003:
Brian first worked in the Renfrew axe factory. Later they farmed at Northcote, West lot - 28, Concession 2, Admaston Twp., consisting of 100 acres and later owned by son Peter Brisco and then by Clinton Brisco and now owned by Ross Crozier. Cattle from the few farms were driven to a clearing nearer the Bonnechere where there was more summer pasture for day time. At night, they had to be brought back to the settlement. Much of the farm was still uncleared when Brian and Mary Ann came. They built a small house. Some of the years, Brian spent working in the shanty or as a teamster. Northcote's first school house was put up just across the road opposite their laneway. Later on, when the circuit rider preacher came, Mary Ann sent her boys out to let the neightbours know he'd arrived. No doubt, baptisms and other needs would be attended to as well as services held. Brian died on May 21, 1877, age 44 from tuberculosis brought on by exposure and over exertion which first turned into pneumonia. He was portaging barrels of flour and the load upset at the bottom of a hill between Dacre and Wilno. He had to carry the eleven barrels of flour up the hill and reload his sleigh.14
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
In balance, I discount Diane's information at this time (Feb 2024.)20
