The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
I conclude that the "Aunt Wales" who raised Emma Jane White née Wales after the death of her parents was this Mary Wales. She had been living with James, their mother, Sarah, and Emma according to the 1851 census.7
She was also known as Maria Wales.4
Mary Wales appeared on the 1841 British Census of Leeds, at Yorkshire, England, in the household of her mother Sarah Hetherington, and she was described as independant.4
Mary appeared on the 1851 British Census of England, Yorkshire, in the household of James Wales.1

Verify that the 1841 census is not for Maria, daughter of William Wales. She was born in 1796. Look for source giving her mohther's name.8
