Research notes:
There is no proof that Isham was the son of Lodwick Alford however there is some circumstantial evidence suggesting that he might have been. They were contemproaries in the same county. For example, the Bute County register that contains the entries below also includes 25 references to Lodwick Alford for a period from 1769 to 1778.1
The following biographical fact was included, North Carolina, 10 February 1779:
On Nov 12, 1777, "A deed from Nathan Hall to Isam Alford was proved by the Oath of Issac Pippen a Witness thereto and on Motion the same is Ordered to be Registered." (page 137 of digital copy)

The following biographical information appeared at the book "History of North Carolina: From 1584 to 1783" (1908), 10 May 1781:
from State Records of NC, May 13, 1781: In a letter from Col. Benj. Seawell to General Sumner:
"Not a man of any rank or distinction, or scarcely any man of property," wrote Colonel Seawell, "has lain in his house since the British passed through Nash County. We are distressed with all the rogues and vagabonds that Cornwallis can raise to pest us with ... A certain Robert Beard with fifteen others on Friday last seized the person of John Ferrell, Isham Alford and Robert Melton, together with seven horses and I think three guns... and carried them all off. Our men after collecting, pursued them; but night coming on, and drawing near the enemy's lines, they returned without any luck."
From a newspaper article about Nash County in the Revolutionary War we see that "The Captain Beard referred to was from Anson County and a deserter from the Continental Army in Virginia who had been commissioned by Cornwallis to capture and bring in known supporters of the American for cause which he would receive a reward of 10 guineas each. Captain Beard was knocked off his horse when he tried to escape from the fight at the Drake place, captured, tried for treason and executed."3,4,5
