John Mays died in 1964 at Pauls Valley, Garvin County, Oklahoma, USA.2
Andrea Jones writes as follows:
Ruby married John Mays in 1924. I have a copy of their marriage certificate. Has his residence as Detroit, Michigan. The story I heard was that he worked for Ruby's father, William, & then he & Ruby married, he was 29 and she was 18. They had Wilburn and shortly after he left them & no one ever heard from him again. I remember hearing that granny's brothers were mean to him and ran him off & I heard that he may have had another wife. I spoke recently to Veda, Ruby's neice, and she just remembers her dad saying how sorry John was. I guess no one but John knows the real story & I'm sure he's deceased by now. Wilburn died in 1990.1
