Her name was also recorded as Matilde Schlüter.5 Matilde Schlüter was included on a passenger manifest for the "Graf Waldersee" dated 19 February 1914 departing from the Port of Hamburg, Germany, stopping at Cuvhaven, Germany and then bound for New York accompanied by her daughter, Emma.6 Matilde Schlüter was included on a passenger manifest for the "Graf Waldersee" dated 7 March 1914 arriving at Port of New York, New York, USA, accompanied by her daughter, Emma. Emma's age was given as 10 rather than about 12.7 Matilda Teichgraber and Emma M. Teichgraber attempted to cross the border but was rejected on 26 April 1919 to Niagara Falls, New York, USA. Matilda was a widow and a dressmaker who spoke German. Emma, hwo spoke English, had been a store clerk. They had last lived in Waterloo, Ontario. They stated that they had transitted thru New York in Apr 1914 arriving there aboard the "Graf Waldersee." They had no relatives in Canada. Their purpose was to make a home in the U.S., and they were going to Kansas City, Kansas where "Uncle August Lube" lived.8,3 Matilde Schluter declared the intention to become naturalized on 2 March 1927 at Michigan, USA. She declared that she had entered the U.S. at Detroit on 05 Sep 1925 by Canadian Pacific railroad from Windsor, Ontario. She referenced her husband Henry Schluter who had been born in Germany.9,4

Further research is required to sort out their various surnames. 1914 passenger lists give their surname as Schlüter, but when they crossed into the U.S. in 1919, their name was Teichgraber. On Emma's marriage registration she gave her surname as Teichgrover.10
