The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The True Republican published in Sycamore, Illinois 14 May 1948:
Charles Reigard Dies Suddenly
Charles Loyd Reigard, 68, for over 30 years a resident of Sycamore, who resided at 117 North Cross Street, died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday morning at 11:45 o'clock. Death was instantaneous as he was in the act of unloading rubbish at the city dump.

He had been too ill to work all of last week. He had returned to his duties as industrial milk foreman at Sycamore Dairy on Monday. He had been suffering with gall bladder trouble. Late Tuesday morning he had finished regular milk duties and decided to haul some rubbish in one of the firm's trucks to the city dump.

Chief of Police Horace Fothergill, on duty at the State and California Street intersection to guard school children from traffic, saw Reigard and the truck pass him on the way to the dump which is located at the north end of North Cross Street.

It was but a few minutes later that someone who had been picking out scrap from the dump rushed to the police officer and told him that something had happened to Reigard, that he had seen Reigard fall out of the door of the truck. Hasty examination told him that Reigard was probable dead. The chief called a doctor who pronounced the man dead. The chief then called the coroner.

Charles Reigard was born in Freeport August 5, 1880, the son of Francis and Ella Reigard, who are now dead. He attended Freeport schools. On June 7, 1913, he was married in Chicago to Millie Rosene. The couple spent most of their married life in Sycamore.

He is survived by his widow, here; a sister, Mrs. Florence Grimes, DeKalb; and a brother, Walter Reigard, DeKalb.

Funeral services are being held this Friday afternoon from the C. V. Kebil funeral home, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. H. L. Michael of Sycamore Federated church will officiate. Burial will be in Ohio Grove cemetery.7
