Harold Douglas was the second of the Dougan son's to enlist. His older brother Herbert had enlisted two years earlier in 1916, and had been severely wounded at Vimy a month after the capture of the Ridge. Harold was also wounded, less than two months after his arrival in France. He did not return to his unit until after the armistice and remained in France into 1919. Note that he was not in a force of occupation in Germany as stated in the Asquith history.5
James Harold Dougan of Asquith began military service on 19 February 1918 at the age of 19 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, joining Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) although an earlier Jan. 15th news item reported his enlistment through the Citizen's Recruitment Committee. He was an unmarried farmer with no military experience. He was described as being 5' 8" with a fair complexion, grey eysa and brown hair. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his father, John S. Dougan of Asquith. He was assigned regimental number 2293742.1
On 15 April 1918, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, he embarked for England aboard S.S. "Melita" and arrived at Liverpool on the 28th. By the 16th of August he had joined his unit in the field (France.) On October 11th he received a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. He appears to have been treated and convalesed in France, rejoining his unit on Nov. 14th just after the armistice. He remained in France until April 17, 1919.1 Pte. James Harold Dougan ended military service as part of general demobilization on 31 May 1919 at Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada, planning to return to Asquith.

Introductory Overview:
William Burton Dougan is not included in the Asquith and District Honour Roll for WWI.
Other comments:
Burton was the third of the Dougan sons to serve. The Asquith history states that he served in WWI with the R.C.A.F. but I have been unable to locate a service record. The Royal Flying Corps Canada (RFCC) was formed in January 1917, so it is possible he served late in the war when he was 17 or 18. His gravemarker shows that he was a corporal in the R.C.A.F., so he did serve after it's formation in 1924.6
He was commonly known as Burton Dougan.7 He moved to Douglas Plain district, RM of Loganton, Saskatchewan, Canada, with John S. Dougan and Mary Dougan on 1 April 1906; Ontario.7
