     Charles was the son of Charles Harvey Fleming and Ann Jane Gregory. They came to the Asquith district from Manitoba. The Asquith history mentions that George Harris was in partnership in an implement business in Asquith with Charles Fleming for a few years. This was probably the father above. Charles Jr. enlisted in 1916 and served in France with the Canadian Railway Troops. After the war he went to Washington state where his parents had moved in 1916 and his sister's family had moved in 1918.^4,5

     Charles Harvey Fleming of Asquith began military service on 16 May 1916 at the age of 22 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 203rd Overseas Battalion. He was an unmarried labourer with one year experience with the Legion of Frontiersmen. He was described as being 5' 11" with a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his father, Charles H Fleming Sr. of Asquith. He was assigned regimental number 235049.¹
     On 24 October 1916, at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, his unit embarked on the "S. S. Grampian" arriving at Liverpool, England on 4 Nov 1916.¹
     On from 21 December 1916 to 30 December 1916, at Aldershot, England, he was hospitalized in isolation with Rubella.¹
     On 9 February 1917, he went to France with the 3rd Canadian Labour Battalion hwich was later designated the 11th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops.¹ Dvr. Charles Harvey Fleming ended military service as part of general demobilization on 16 July 1919 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, of the 11th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops after service in France at a ration dump. He intended to go to Sedro Wooley, a city Washington state.
