The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Ottawa Citizen published in Ottawa, Ontario 3 August 1937:
John Baron Passes On Suddenly After Day s Fishing Trip
John Baron, prominent Ottawa Accountant, passed away suddenly yesterday, while returning from a day's fishing on the Rideau river. Mr. Baron was in his 68th year.
Accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. William J. Baron, his son and daughter-in-law, he had gone early yesterday for a day of fishing. After an active day's sport re complained of feeling tired as He got into the back seat of the car. On the way home, his son noticed that his father was not taking part in the conversation and when he looked around, it seemed to him that his father had dozed off.
Upon arrival at 675 Gilmour street. where his father resided, Mr. and Mrs. Baron were unable to arouse him and Dr. C. T. Bowles was called. Dr. Bowles after an examination pronounced him dead and called Dr. R. M. Cairns, Coroner. Dr. Cairns decided that Heath was due to natural causes and that no inquest was necessary.
The passing of Mr. Baron will cause keen regret among his wide circle of friends in the Capital. Ever since coming to Ottawa he had been an accountant by profession and up until the time of his death had been with the R. R. Foster firm.
Born at Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of Mr. and Mrs. IV. J. Baron, he came to Canada In 1909 and had been a resident of Ottawa since that time. His wife. the former Emma Rebecca Bagguley, predeceased him on January 1st, 1912.
He leaves to mourn his loss, two sons, John and William J., of Ottawa: four daughters, Mrs. A. G. Peters, Mrs. R. J. Stockings and Louise and Hilda, all of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, one brother William J. in England; three sisters Mrs. J. Hulme and Mrs. Edwin Willis of Ottawa and Mrs. ? Bradshaw of England
Prominent in United Church circles, he was a member of Wesley United church. A keen fraternalist (sic), he was honorary tyler of Ashlar Lodge, A.F. and A.M. and toast president of Queen's Own Lodge, Sons of England.
He was a well known sportsman and was a prominent fisherman and his passing will occasion deep regret in sports circles.1

John Robert Stanley died on 23 October 1933, at this home, at Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.1
John and Hannah Stanley appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario, Wellington Ward, enumerated 1 April 1871. John was described as a teamster and a Baptist. Lyman Hoonewell, a blacksmith, was also included in their household. He may have been a relative of Hannah's mother, Charlotte Honeywell.2
In the obituary of Hannah Stanley who died 1 March 1900, her husband, John R. Stanley was listed as a survivor.5,8
John and Sarah Stanley appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario, Wellington Ward, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a drayman and a Baptist. Their daughter Ida M. was listed as living with them. Note that this census was intended to enumerate people effective 31 Mar 1901. John and Sarah did not marry until the 10th of April, so they should not have been reported as married. Since Ida is already shown as a daughter, I assume she was adopted by John and Hannah prior to Hannah's death in 1900.3

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Ottawa Citizen published in Ottawa, Ontario 23 October 1933:
John R. Stanley Is Dead At 91 Years
One of City's Oldtimers Born Here When It Was Bytown.---Funeral Tuesday.
John Robert Stanley, pioneer resident of the Capital, died this morning at his residence, 114 Sherbrooke avenue, at the advanced age of 91 years. Mr. Stanley was a son of the late John R. Stanley, who came to Bytown from England about 1824. He was ill only a short time. The funeral will be held on Tuesday.
Mr. Stanley was born in Bytown, in a two and a half storey white frame building known as the old Carleton hotel that stood for many years on the south side of Wellington street between Bank and Kent streets. The building was there until the American Bank Note Company building was erected. The late Mr. Stanley's father owned the building and ran a hotel for a number of years. The late Mr. Stanley's father was one of those who contributed heavily towards the erection of the original Christ church.
Mr. Stanley had many recollections of the early days of Ottawa. He remembered as a small boy seeing farmers coming in from Nepean to Christ church in ox carts, six or eight persons to a cart, and how some of these farmers used to come to church in summer attired only in white shirts, trousers and a belt, the latter generally of some colored material. Mr. Stanley also had recollections of Wellington street dating as far back as the year 1850 and of James Doran, the old soldier who owned the famous Doran Hotel, where the Mortimer Company building is now situated.
His wife predeceased him in December last year. Surviving is an adopted daughter, Miss Ida Stanley, of Ottawa, and the following nieces and nephews, Mrs. A. Simpkins, of St. Paul, Minn; Mrs. Albert Stanley, Metcalfe; Mrs, Robert Walsh. Metcalfe; Mrs. Frank Tanner, Vars, Mrs. William Brunton, and Mrs. George Stanley, of Ottawa; William Mossop, Cotton, Ont; Richard B. Stanley, Greely; John Morrison Osgood Station, and Charles C. Morrison, of Ottawa.
The funeral will take place from his late residence tomorrow afternoon to St. Matthias Anglican church where the service will be conducted at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Beechwood cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev. W. A. E. Butler.1

Research notes (February 2020):
Since Ida is enumerated with John Stanley and his new wife Sarah on 31 Mar 1901, I assume that John and his first wife Hannah had adopted her. After Hannah's death in 1900, John remarried just after the official enumeration date of the 1901 census. They were probably enumerated after April 10th, and were technically incorrectly listed as married.
Alternatively, Ida may have been a ward of Sarah prir to her marriage to John.3

John and Sarah did not marry until the 10th of April, so they should not have been reported as married. Since Ida is already shown as a daughter, I assume she was adopted by John and Hannah prior to Hannah's death in 1900.4

Alternatively, Ida may have been a ward of Sarah prir to her marriage to John.1
