The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Ottawa Journal published in Ottawa, Ontario 7 October 1935:
Mrs. S. Moffatt Dies in Renfrew In Her 86th Year
She Was Widely Known in District.
     Special to The Journal
RENFREW, Ont., Oct. 6. — One Of Renfrew and district's oldest and most widely respected citizens died here today in the person of Mrs. Samuel Moffatt (nee Annie McNabb).
Born at Ashton, in the township of Beckwith, more than 85 years ago, her death removes another member of thai great generation which "look over" from the pioneers of this part of Upper Canada. Her parents were Peter McNabb and Catherine Kennedy.' and on her mother's side she was directly related to Donald Kennedy, pioneer civil engineer, who surveyed many of the early communities, including the town of Renfrew. Accordingly, her life was linked to those brave yesterdays, when the shining virtues of godliness, coinage, thrift and industry laid the sure foundations of stability and character in succeeding generations. In the atmosphere or a pioneer settlement of staunch Highlanders, who still clung to the Gaelic, this kindly. gracious lady was reared to splendid young womanhood.
Romance came to her when Samuel Moffatt of Ramsay township, courted and won her, and they were married in the Free Church manse at Almonte by that beloved minister, the late Rev. William McKenzie. Theirs has been a particularly happy marriage, and they have gracefully grown old together.
For a number of years she lived In Carleton Place, where Mr. Moffatt engaged in the planing mill industry under the firm name of Moffatt and Company. Since 1890, however, when her husband transferred his activities to Renfrew, she has been a resident of this town.
The deceased was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church til (sic) the advent of union, when she became Identified with the United Church of Canada.
Mrs. Moffatt had been in delicate health for some time, and the final summons came to her as peacefully aa had been her life. Possessed of a keen sense of humor and a cheery disposition, she radiated happiness in her home. In her outside contacts she was.unobtrusively kindly. In fact, her life was full of remembered kindnesses. and the return from these. In the widespread affection and esteem of the entire community, has blessed her evening years.
In addition to her husband, there survive the following children: Miss Edith A. Moffatt. Brockville General Hospital: Norman M. Moffatt. Renfrew; Miss Catherine A. Moffatt Renfrew: Mrs. J. R. Easton (Margaret). Renfrew: Robert 8. Moffatt. Hughton, Saskatchewan; Mrs. Hugh Jetley (Jessie). Winnipeg; Miss Annie H. Moffatt, Renfrew; Gordon R. Moffatt Winnipeg, and Mrs. H. J. Walker (Olive), Ottawa.
The funeral will be held from her residence, Argyle street, at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment being made in the Thomson Hill cemetery, Renfrew.5

In the obituary of Samuel Reid Moffat who died 8 July 1950, his wife, the former Annie McNab, was listed as predeceased.6
In the obituary of Catherine Aletta Moffatt who died 30 June 1960, her parents, Samuel Moffatt and Mrs. Samuel Moffatt were listed or implied as predeceased.7
