Ottawa Lady Home After 4 Years In Battered Britain
After four years in England, during which time she witnessed the worst that a German blitz can offer. Mrs. G. D. Honeywell of Ottawa returned to her home today with two new citizens. Douglas, aged three, and David, two.
Mrs. Honeywell went overseas In February. 1940. to be with her husband. Bombardier Doug Honeywell of Ottawa, now serving with Canadian forces in Italy. She has been in England since that time. Both children were born there.
Mrs. Honeywell, on arrival in Ottawa at noon, laughingly expressed her "luck" at getting out of England when she did.
"A blitz is a pretty terrible thing." Mrs. Honeywell stated.
"Did you ever have bombs fall anywhere near you?" asked The Evening Citizen.
     Saw Buildings Fall
"Oh. many times I've seen whole buildings collapse. We were just plain lucky. I guess."
"What about the food situation over there?" "The food is by no means fancy." she replied, "but no one goes hungry."
     "Were the children seasick?"
"No, they did things backwards. They were awfully ill after we landed."
At this point Mrs. Honeywell bent over to attend to "Dougie," who apparently not too impressed with his new home, was shedding a few tears. Mrs. Honeywell explained that all the excitement was Just "too much."
At the station to Rieet Mrs. Honeywell and the children were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Habblsshaw. 28 Byron street, her parents, as well as Sqdr. Ldr. W. R. "Bill" Ramsay and his wife, who is a sister of Mrs. Honeywell.6
