He was born in 1840 or 1841 since he was age 1 on the 1842 passenger list.2 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1843 at Scotland since he was 18 in the 1861 census.1
Thomas Daviewas found on a passenger list with 51809, Thomas Gardner and David Gardner on 1 July 1842 at New York, New York, USA. Their party also included other family members: Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Davie, Cath'rn Davie, Thomas Davie and Thomas Gardenr. Note that the last Thomas has a different spelling to his surname (indexed as Gardener, but I read Gardenr.) Was he a really family member?3
Thomas Davy appeared on the 1861 Canadian Census of Clarke Twp., Durham County, Canada West (modern Ontario) in the household of his parents, Alexander and Betrix Davy, aand he was listed as a laborer.1

She was born on 22 January 1834, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland according to her grave marker. Note that her son's death registration indicates she was born in Dublin.1,2 Alternatively, she may have been born on 22 January 1835 at Ireland according to the 1901 census3; or, circa 1836 at Ireland since she was 35 in the 1871 census.4 It was incorrectly recorded that Mary Jane Tudor Marks was born circa 1843 at Ireland since she claimed to be 48 in the 1891 census.5 Mary married James Archibald Gairdiner before 1853.6,1,2,5
Mary Jane Gairdner died on 29 March 1908, Bayfield, Huron County, Ontario, Canada according to Ontario Death Registration 013772.1,7
Mary Jane Tudor Marks was buried at Bayfield Cemetery, Stanley Twp., Huron County, Ontario Canada.1
James and Marey Gardner appeared on the 1861 United Province of Canada Census of Stanley Twp., Huron County, Ontario, enumerated 13 January 1861. James was described as a merchant. Their children, Sharlotte, Catherin and Robert, were listed as living with them. An unknown person , an M.D., was also included in the houesshold. Note that age is given as the next birthday and households were not explicitly identified.2
James and Mary Jane Tudor Marks appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Stanley Twp., Huron County, Ontario, enumerated 2 April 1871. James was described as a merchant. Their children, Charlotte, Kate, Robt H., Mary, John, Ann H. and Charles, were listed as living with them.4
James and Mary Gardiner appeared on the 1891 Canadian Census of Bayfield, Stanley Twp., Huron County, Ontario, enumerated 6 April 1891. James was described as the postmaster. Their children, Catherine, Mary, John, Margerette and Charley, were listed as living with them. While all of their ages were understated, I know this is the correct family since James is described as the postmaster during the period that we know for "our" James Gairdner.5
Mary Gardiner appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Bayfield, Stanley Twp., Huron County, Ontario, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a widow, with no stated occupation. Her children: Catherine, Mary, John and Marguerit, were listed as living with her. The year of her immigration to the US appears to be 1848, although the last digit is open to interpretation.3 In the death registration of John Tuder (sic) Gairdner, who died on 19 May 1932, Mary Jane Marks was identified as his mother.8
I don't currently plan to document this family line any further. It is not of primary interest to me.9
