Robert Carscadden died at Canada.1
The following biographical information was shared at an email from Steph Eddy, March 2001:
Robert was of Scottish descent. He and his family travelled from Fermangh (sic) Ireland on a ship. It took them 14 (sic) weeks to cross the ocean on account of head winds. Flora Dean, Robert's wife died on the long journey and was buried at sea. When they first arrived in Canada they settled in the Township of Clarke, County of Durham, Ontario, Canada.
Robert eventually moved to Collingwood Township, Grey County, Ontario and bought a two hundred (acre) bush farm with only ten acres cleared. It was strenuous work clearing the land for cultivation but it was good soil and produced wonderful crops of wheat and other grains. Wheat sold for $2.25 a bushel, so the farmers were paid well for their labour.
The Carscaddens were hardworking upright honest people.
Steph got this from an Affidavit of Family History, taken in Seattle, Washington, written by Susan Jane Carscadden-Lyons, sworn and signed Dec 18th, 1950
Searches of the Orono Weekly Times reveal several accounts of this family and migration. They tell that the voyage took 24 weeks due to head winds and a hurricane that nearly blew them back to the old country.1

Rev. James Carscadden
A very worthy and highly respected man has passed from active duties of life to sweet rest in heaven in the decease of Reverend James Carscadden, of this town. The subject of this sketch was born in the County of Fermanagh, Ireland on Feb 2 1810. In 1839 he with his family immigrated to Canada and settled in the Township of Clarke, where he resided and was widely known as an honest industrious and well to do farmer. Having amassed considerable wealth he very wisely retired from farming about twenty years ago and had since lived quietly and happily. He became a resident of Bowmanville in March 1882, since which time one of his chief delights was the attendance at religious services in connection with the Queen St. Methodist Church.
At the comparatively early age of 22 Mr. Carscadden was appointed class leader in his native country. This position he also held for many years in this country, also that of Sunday School Superintendent. After coming to this country he joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church but in 1848 at the time of the split in that body he left and joined the M.E. Church in which he was an active and zealous member until the Union. In 1851 he was licensed as a local preacher and in 1863 he was ordained and given all the powers and authority of a traveling minister. On the day before his ordination he was appointed Justice of the Peace or Magistrate for the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham, thus uniting Church and State. He was always a liberal supporter of all benevolent and church interests and his house frequently the home of the ministers. Mr. Carscadden was a strong supporter of the Reform Party and an enthusiastic and zealous temperance worker. He is the second of eight brothers to pass away.
The funeral on Wednesday was largely attended. A very valued friend, Rev. Dr. Pirritte of Brighton was present and assisted at the services. Rev. R.D. Fraser M.A also assisted. The remains were borne to Orono Cemetery for interment. A devoted wife and two children mourn the loss of a kind husband and affectionate father.10
