He was born circa 1785 at Châteauguay, Châteauguay, Lower Canada, British North America.1 Pierre married M Anne Duquette on 1 September 1806 at St. Joachim parish, Châteauguay, Châteauguay, Lower Canada, British North America.1,4
Pierre Maheu appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census (delayed) of Deux Montagnes County, Québec, St. Hermas, enumerated 11 January 1852. Pierre was described as a cultivateur (farmer) aged 66 and a Catholique. This may be the correct census record for this indivudual, based upon the estimated year of birth.5
Notes courtesy of Gerlynn Cont in an email message dated Nov 10, 2003:
In looking through this info, around 1846, four more Mayhew brothers came to live in Renfrew, Edward, Joseph, Paul and Pierre[or Peter]. These brothers were nephew's of Joseph Mayhew [Ira's father]. Also living in Renfrew was Charles Mayhew, he was a brother to your Joseph, he also was born in Chateauguay, PQ around 1806 died in 1897. Charles married Anne New in 1838 in Renfrew.
So, during those years, there were lots of Mayhew's in that Renfrew area, it can get a little confusing trying to figure out who belongs to what family. Some of the church records spell the name as Mayhew, others spell it Mayeux, Maheux or even Mailleux, but they are all the same line.
Oh I forgot, the four brothers Edward, Joseph, Paul and Peter were the son of Pierre Mayhew, brother to Joseph and Charles.2
