Weddings
     LEVAN (sic)-McDONALD
After sixty years the United Church, Mallorytown, was the scene of its first wedding, Thursday, Dec. 28, at 2.30 p.m., when Florence Lillian, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. McDonald, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Mr. Delbert Owen Levans, Pembroke, son of Mr. Thomas and the late Hannah Elizabeth Levans, Detroit, Mich.
The church, decorated with palms, ferns and white chrysanthemums, presented an attractive setting for the ceremony. The Rev. William Parker officiated. Mr. Cecil Avery, Mallorytown, presiding at the organ, played softly throughout the ceremony and accompanied the soloist, Miss Marjorie Purvis, Brockville, who sang sweetly, "O Promise Me." directly before the ceremony and "Because" during the signing of the register. Miss Purvis was gowned in -colored velvet and wore a corsage of yellow roses.
The bride, looking a picture of loveliness, entered the church on the arm of her father to the strains of Lohengrin's Wedding March. The gown of white bridal taffeta, made on tailored lines with quilted d vestee bodice, and lover-bow bustle, fell full to the floor and flowed gracefully into a short train. Her veil of French-scrolled net. draped softly around her head was daintily caught by a cluster of orange blossoms. She carried a bridal bouquet of calla lilies and maiden-hair fern, tied with white satin ribbon.
Miss Margery McDonald, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid, and Miss Margaret Alexander, the bride's niece, was junior bridesmaid. Both wore becoming gowns of turquoise taffeta cut on simple lines, with gathered sweetheart neckline, puffed sleeves and bow bustles. They wore small French-smocked turquoise hats with mural-wine streamers and mitts and carried old-fashioned nosegays.
Mr. Robert Dey, Pembroke, assisted the groom. The ushers were Mr. Murray Doran, Pembroke, and Mr. Haffie McDonald, Lyn, brother of the bride.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Ivory tapers, white chrysanthemums and roses formed the decorations. The bride's cake, decorated with smilax and white roses, occupied the centre of the table and on each corner were vases of white a and wine baby 'mums. The bride's mother wore a gown of black velvet with a corsage of American Beauty roses.
After good wishes and congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Levans left for eastern points. The bride travelled in an imported copper-rust and massleaf green crepe frock with matching moss-leaf green suede accessories. On their return they will reside at 173 Maple Avenue, Pembroke.
The of guests were Mr.and Mrs. J. Walton, Miss Marion Beach, Pembroke; Mrs. Kenneth Toten, London; Dr. and Mrs. L. N. Armstrong, Kingston; the Misses Muriel and Leita Haffie, Brooklyn, N.Y; Miss Gladys Latimer and Mrs. L. Cuthbert, Brockville.3
