The following obituary appeared in the weekly newspaper the Lawrenceburg Register published in Lawrenceburg, Indiana 31 January 1929:
A. E. Jackson Dies Following Brief Illness
A pall of sadness was cast over this community Saturday morning when it became known that Arthur E. Jackson had passed away at his home on East High street, after a short illness. He had experienced a slight attack of influenza and had about recovered from it when he again became ill and rapidly grew much weaker.
The deceased was the son of Enoch W. and Emma (Nowlin) Jackson. He was born on a farm in Miller township, this county, Jan. 1, 1870.
He was married to Miss Caroline Grubbs of Miller township and to this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters.
Mr. Jackson was educated in the public schools of Miller township and later attended college at Lebanon, O., preparing himself for the teaching profession, which he followed for several years. After leaving this work he was engaged in the railway mail service, later opening a store in Lawrenceburg.
In 1918 Mr. Jackson was elected auditor of Dearborn county and in 1922 he was again re-elected serving for another four years. During the eight years that he served in this capacity he made many friends who will remember him as a conscientious and faithful official always placing the interests of the county and taxpayers above everything else. Retiring from the office of county auditor he engaged in the practice of law and the insurance and real estate business.
The deceased is survived by his widow, two sons, Layman E. of Chicago and Arthur E. Jr., of Cincinnati; two daughters, Miss Doris Jackson and Mrs. Neal Torry, both of Cincinnati; his mother, Mrs. Emma Jackson, of Bright; and two brothers, P. E. Jackson, of Lawrenceburg and Silas W. Jackson of Miller township. His father preceded him in death several years ago.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Knights of Phynias, Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen. The three lodges held joint services at the Fitch Bros. funeral home on Sunday evening at seven o'clock.
The funeral services were held at the home Monday at one o'clock, Rev. C. D. Wilson, a former pastor of Hamline Chapel M. E. church , of which the deceased was a member, and Rev. W. C. Calvert, the present pastor of the church, officiating. Burial in Gibson cemetery at Bright.
