Susanna appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Sharon, Norfolk County, Massachusetts in the household of her parents, Abijah and Harriet G Tisdale, listed as attending school.2
James B. and P. Susie Smith appeared on the 1880 U.S. Federal Census of Easton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, enumerated 12 June 1880, described as a carpenter.6 She was a survivor of her child Kenneth who died i on 23 May 1885.11
     P. Susan Smith appeared on the 1900 U.S. Federal Census of Sharon, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, enumerated 6 June 1900, described as the owner of a farm. She had a 19 year old servant (male) and a 5 year old boarder (male). She stated she had been married for 21 years, so married in about 1879.7
The following information is from my personal research, 25 May 1935:
It is interesting to note that James and his legal wife, Susie died within 5 weeks of each other though they had not seen each other for about 50 years.12

The following biographical information was shared at a message from WeRelate user Rich Eastman, 22 November 2014:
Very glad to reach you, even though you might not have any info. I'll certainly add what info I have, which I've only come across recently while doing further research on known family members of mine long since put to bed. The major interest with James is that I uncovered a family scandal that no one (in my lifetime) had heard about. James Swift was not his birth name. He was the brother of my great great grandfather, Deroyce Smith from Easton, MA. James was born James Britton Smith, son of Asahel Smith and Almira Gilbert. Both Deroyce and James married daughters of Abijah Tisdale (Harriet and Susie respectively) around 1878 in Easton. I lost track of James after the 1880 census and never knew about him until recently when I discovered the obituary for Gertrude Ivadelle Swift and her parents were listed as James "Brillon" Swift and Nancy Gertrude Tisdale. I checked the 1901 Canada Census and found them living in Indian Head... their full birthdates being spot on to James Smith and Susie's other sister, Nancy. Come to find out, James and Nancy ran away from their families and were never heard from again. Apparently James changed his last name to Swift and they settled at Indian Head in 1884, one year after the birth of James and Susie's son, Kenneth. I've been trying to find out more info on James and Nancy, if they were ever married, whether or not anyone knew of their secret. I wonder if their kids, James Ernest and Ivadelle, even knew themselves. I will keep an eye on your page and add what info I have..5

About People
Miss Jessie Riddell accompanied her brother Walter Riddell to West Chicago today where she will visit her sister Mrs. Charles Sagle and little nephew.1

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Daily Chronicle published in DeKalb, Illinois 17 February 1897:
The Death Record
Jessie Riddell passed away last night.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Riddell was darkened by the appearance of the death angel last night who claimed for his own their youngest daughter, Jessie Riddell.
She was born in Cortland Nov. 5th, 1882 and when a year old moved with her parents to this place. DeKalb has been her home since Dec. 5th, 1883, and during the thirteen years she has been a general favorite with playmates and friends. She was an unusually bright girl in school having passed through all of the lower rooms with honor and recently was successful in an examination for entrance to the high school. It was partially the result of work necessary to fit her for this examination together with a natural nervousness, rapid growth of the body tat three weeks ago, confined her to bed. Since that time she has suffered much, the decease first being pronounced nervous fever which terminated in typhoid. Previous to her death the fever left her and she seemed to be resting quietly when at about half past eleven Tuesday night, Feb. 16th, 1897, as she was raised from the pillow her head dropped and with the utterance of the words. "What a beautiful place" her heart ceased beating and her spirit had flown.
The family of father, mother, four brothers and two sisters are not alone in their grief for Jessie's friends in school, church and town were numerous. She was a faithful member of the Congregational Sunday school where her sweet voice raised in praise and her regular attendance at the sessions will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held at the Congregational church at half past two tomorrow afternoon.2

The following account of the funeral of Jessie Riddell appeared in the DeKalb, Illinois The Daily Chronicle, on 18 February 1897 :

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The True Republican published in Sycamore, Illinois 20 February 1897:
