He was born on 3 December 1894 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England.4,5 Alternatively, he may have been born on 3 December 1892 at England according to his enlistment papers.3 He was baptized on 12 April 1896 at All Saints, Liverpool, Lancashire, England,5; or, on 3 December 1896 according to his death registration.1 Colin married Julia F. Dunn circa January 1926 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,6,7
Thomas Colin Holgate died on 9 August 1946 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital Grace Site, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, at age 51 according to Ontario Death Registration 024151.1,6 The informant on his death registration was his wife, Julia Holgate.1

Thomas Colin Holgate was buried on 12 August 1946 at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Windsor, Essex County, Ontario, Canada.6,8
     Asquith and District Honour Roll:
     "Holgate, Colin" of Asquith.
Other comments:
Colin was farming in the Asquith area when he enlisted in 1916. Apparently those who created the Honour Roll were unaware that in April 1917 he was stricken from the rolls as a deserter. Another Asquith man, Andrew Nodvedt that enlisted the same day also deserted about the same time. Colin's Attestation Paper was witnessed by another future deserter from the area, Werner Bostrom. One has to wonder if they had influenced each other
From the late 1920's he was an auctioneer in the Windsor area, a business carried on by his son and wife after his death.3,9

Canadian Military Service - WWI

Thomas Colin Holgate of Asquith began military service on 26 June 1916 at the age of 21 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, joining the 223rd Overseas Battalion (Canadian Scandinavians). He was an unmarried farmer with no military experience. On his Attestation (enlistment) papers, he listed his next-of-kin/contact as his father, William Holgate of 46 Broadway Road, Old Swan, Liverpool, England.3,9 Colin Holgate witnessed the beginning of military service of John Henry Anderson on 8 July 1916 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, signing John's attestation form.10,11
On October 1916, he was granted 28 days Harvest Furlough. In February 1917 he was hospitalized in Portage la Prairie for 21 days.3 Pte. Colin Hoglate ended his military service on 25 April 1917 as a deserter.
End of Military Service section.3

Colin Holgate appeared on the 1911 British Census of Liverpool, at Lancashire, England, in the household of his parents, William and Sarah Emma Holgate.4 C. Holgate was included on a passenger manifest for the "Corsican" dated 15 November 1912 departing from Liverpool, Lancashire, England. It arrived at St. John, New Brunswick on Nov 23rd. He was listed as 18, and formerly a cattle dealer. He was bound for Asquith, Saskatchewan with the intent of being a farmer. He would travel inland on the C.P.R.12,13 He was included on a passenger manifest for the White Star "Cedric" dated 6 April 1925 arrving at Liverpool, Lancashire, England. It had sailed from New York. He was listed as a machinist.14 He and Julie Holgate were included on a passenger manifest for the "Montclare" dated 5 March 1926 departing from Liverpool, Lancashire, England, to St John, New Brunswick. It arrived there on March 14th. He was listed as a mechanic and she was a housewife. The Canadian arrivals document lists them as "just maried." He declared that he had been to Canada before, from 1910 to April 1925, at Windsor. There is no mention of his Saskatchewan residence.14
The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Windsor Star published in Windsor, Ontario 9 August 1946:
Thomas Colin Holgate
Thomas Colin Holgate, 51. of 486 Goyeau, died today at Hotel Dieu, after a six weeks' illness.
He was born in Liverpool, England. and had lived in Windsor for 20 years where he was an auctioneer.
He is survived by his wife, Julia, son, William, and a daughter Geraldine, all at home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 8:30 a.m. from the Janisse Brothers Funeral Home, 585 London street, to St. Alphonsus Church, at 9. Prayers will be said in the evenings at 6:30 at the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemtery (sic.)6

In the obituary of Julia Francis Holgate who died 7 November 2001, her husband, Thomas Colin Holgate, was listed as predeceased.15
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
In his Attestation Paper he gives his father's address as 46 Broadway Rd, Oldswan, Liverpool.
In the 1911 census, the family was living at 46 Broad Green Rd., Old Swan, Liverpool.
The two addresses are about 3 miles apart. Had the family moved in the interim, or had Colin changed some details for his military enlistment, including his age and his parent's address?16

In the obituary of William Holgate who died 12 April 2021, his parents, Thomas Colin Holgate and Julia Dunn were listed or implied as predeceased.2
